Vaibhav Sooryavanshi seems to be raising his stock with almost every passing day. Soon after winning the coveted ‘Orange Cap’ in IPL 2026, the young opener blazed India A to an emphatic tri-series win in Sri Lanka.

The 15-year-old rained down 94 runs from just 29 balls on the big day, and raced to his half-century from just 11 deliveries to record the world’s fastest fifty in 50-overs ‘A team’ matches.

Currently bracing himself for his Team India debut, Sooryavanshi has now received a word of caution, with Sachin Tendulkar's example, from former South Africa cricketer Daryll Cullinan.

Daryll Cullinan warns Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with Tendulkar’s elbow concern

Former South Africa top-order batter Daryll Cullinan praised young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of his international debut for the Indian team.

However, Cullinan also asked Sooryavanshi to be wary of his wrists and elbow, especially owing to his fast bat swing and hard-hitting abilities.

The cricketer-turned-commentator also recalled the elbow concern that often plagued India’s all-time great Sachin Tendulkar during his playing days.

Daryll Cullinan said, “I’m in awe of this young man, but what's bothering me, and no one is talking about it, is injuries? At 15, swinging a big bat, playing so much cricket, I fear for his wrists, elbows, the smaller stuff and joints. What does medical opinion say? Remember, Sachin's career almost got cut short by a bad elbow. He definitely would not have been swinging so hard so often as Sooryavanshi.”

When elbow concern disrupted Sachin Tendulkar’s career

Compatible to Daryll Cullinan’s concern, the elbow concern became a major thorn in Sachin Tendulkar’s cricketing career, especially during the backend of his journey.

Moreover, a career-threatening elbow injury heavily disrupted Tendulkar’s career between 2004 and 2006, before he made a strong comeback to the national team.

The injury became so agonising at one stage that the legendary right-hander was unable to complete his normal back lift, and it threatened to curtail his competitive career much earlier before his eventual exit.

Fortunately for Sachin Tendulkar and for Indian fans, the legendary batter went on to play up until 2013 for Team India. He completed 200 Tests in the process, scored 100 centuries, and lifted the 2011 World Cup in front of his home crowd.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can break Tendulkar's record on UK tour

Interestingly, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is often compared with Sachin Tendulkar by Team India fans, particularly owing to his early start and for showing exceptional promise as a teenager.

However, Cullinan’s concerns appear to stem from a legitimate long-term workload and biomechanics perspective. Unlike Tendulkar in his formative years, Sooryavanshi generates extraordinary bat speed and power through his high-intensity swing.

Given the volume of cricket he is already playing at just 15, managing his physical workload could prove just as important as nurturing his remarkable talent.

Regardless, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will now be touring Ireland for a two-match T20I series this week. The series will mark his first set of international fixtures for Team India, doing so at the age of just 15.

He will subsequently fly to England for five T20Is next month, and if he gets a game on the UK tour, Sooryavanshi will break Tendulkar's record and become India's youngest ever debutant.
