In a significant development, the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee announced the India T20I squad vs Ireland and England.
Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned his maiden call-up for the Indian T20I team after a blockbuster IPL season for Rajasthan Royals.
Led by Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team will lock horns with Ireland in two T20Is before departing to England for a multi-format series against the host nation.
The two-match series against Ireland starts on June 26, with the decider set to be played two days later at the Civil Service Cricket Club ground. After that, India will travel to England to take on the home team across eight white-ball matches, including five T20Is and three ODIs.
Shreyas Iyer named captain, Tilak Varma to play as his deputy
Experienced Indian batter Shreyas Iyer formally replaced Suryakumar Yadav as the new T20I captain in the India T20I squad vs Ireland and England. Iyer has been impressive as a skipper in the IPL, having led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title in the 2024 season.
Shreyas Iyer also powered Punjab Kings to an IPL final after eleven years in 2025, eventually emerging as a frontrunner to succeed Suryakumar Yadav as the Indian T20I skipper.
Suryakumar, who led the Indian team to an emphatic T20 World Cup title in 2026, lost his place in the side amid his struggles with poor form and fitness concerns.

Meanwhile, destructive opening batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi received a much-deserved call-up in the India T20I squad vs Ireland and England.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi attained unprecedented heights as an opening batter for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026. He hammered 776 runs across 16 innings at an average of 48.50 and a blistering strike rate of 237.31, claiming the prestigious Orange Cap at the tender age of 15.
The wonder kid from Bihar shattered multiple batting records, thus convincing the BCCI selection committee to include him in the India T20I squad vs Ireland and England.
Harshit Rana returns as BCCI persists with familiar faces
While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made it into the India T20I squad vs Ireland and England, the BCCI brought Harshit Rana back for the UK tour. Rana, who missed the IPL 2026 due to injury, thus gets a golden opportunity to showcase his mettle and remain in India's 2028 T20 World Cup plans.
Among others, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have been picked as the specialist batters, with Nitish Reddy and Shivam Dube making it into the India T20I squad vs Ireland and England as seam bowling allrounders.
Despite losing the vice-captaincy to Tilak Varma, Axar Patel retains his place in the T20I setup. Washington Sundar has been added to the side as the second spin bowling allrounder, while Varun Chakaravarthy will lead the Indian spin department with Ravi Bishnoi.
The experienced duo of Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj will spearhead the Indian pace battery in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who has been selected in the India squad for Asian Games. Prince Yadav, who starred with the ball for LSG in IPL 2026, also receives his maiden T20I cap for the UK tour.
