Vaibhav Sooryavanshi went ballistic against Sri Lanka A bowlers in the final of their ‘A Team’ tri-series in Dambulla. The blistering left-hander clattered 10 fours and eight scorching sixes in his thunderous 94-run knock from just 29 balls.

Remarkably, the 15-year-old unleashed his fury against Sri Lanka A mere days after getting entangled in a controversial face-off with them. A week ago, at the same venue, both Sooryavanshi and a handful of Sri Lanka A players shared a fiery verbal and physical exchange on the field after the Indian opener failed to take his side home in a thrilling Super Over.

It is worth noting that just a day before the final, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had issued a subtle warning to Sri Lanka A. Less than 24 hours later, the youngster backed it up with a breathtaking assault that left the hosts shell-shocked.

Aiming to scoring a century in the final against his Sri Lanka A rivals, Sooryavanshi failed to achieve that landmark by mere six runs, but still managed to shell-shock the hosts with an innings to remember.

The teenage sensation blasted 94 runs from just 29 balls with 10 boundaries and eight sixes, and shared a 132-run opening partnership with Priyansh Arya in less than nine overs.

The fight that fired up young Sooryavanshi

Last week, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was involved in a heated exchange with Sri Lanka players after their thrilling Super Over finish in Dambulla. As the youngster was making his way to the dugout after failing to take his side home, Sri Lanka A cricketers were seen provoking the India A opener.

The 15-year-old returned and approached Vishen Halambage and his teammates. The young Indian opener even physically pushed the Sri Lankan all-rounder at one stage, before senior man Niroshan Dickwella intervened between the two players.

India A motor towards a huge total in final

Getting invited to bat first, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi started off the India A innings with a fiery 29-ball 94 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Priyansh Arya also composed 39 off 29 balls at the top of the order as the two openers crafted 132 runs together in less than nine overs.

Soon after both Sooryavanshi and Arya were dismissed by Sahan Arachchige and Dulaj Samuditha in quick succession, India A captain Tilak Varma shared an 84-run partnership for the third wicket with in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad. Varma notched up his half-century, his fourth of the series, while Gaikwad made 40 from 51 balls.

At the time of publishing, India A reached 279-3 in 38 overs.
