Australian legendary all-rounder Ellyse Perry and the face of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli, are two of the greatest cricketers in the 21st century. Notably, in 2020, both were named players of the decade by the International Cricket Council (ICC), recognising their unprecedented stature in the sport.

Perry and Kohli have an unrivalled ICC World Cup pedigree. The Indian batter has been an all-time great in ICC limited-overs tournaments, having won multiple titles throughout his career.

He holds the all-time records for the most runs in T20 World Cups and the most runs by an Indian in the Champions Trophy.

On the other hand, on June 20, Ellyse Perry made history by becoming the first cricket player, male or female, to make 50 appearances in the ICC T20 World Cup.

The two modern legends are often compared in many respects, but one thing is common: both Virat Kohli and Ellyse Perry have reached unmatched heights in the sport that millions dream of.

On the same lines, in this article, let’s take a look at their respective legacy in the coveted tournaments and analyse which cricketer has more ICC trophies to their name.

A look at Virat Kohli’s legacy in the ICC championships

Virat Kohli is one of the most decorated players in the history of the sport. Not only his numbers, but his hunger and discipline also set him apart. After leading India to the U-19 World Cup in 2008, he quickly graduated to the senior team and later earned the nickname ‘chase-master’.

A young Virat played a crucial role in the 2011 World Cup, announcing his arrival in style by scoring a century in his very first game. After the tournament, Kohli’s rise in the ODIs was meteoric.

In the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, Virat further cemented his status as a clutch player. He played a pivotal role in India’s undefeated tournament victory.

After a decade of dominance, along with a rare drop in form, Kohli reached another peak in the 2023 ODI World Cup, scoring 3 centuries, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record with his 50th ODI hundred, and becoming the player with the most centuries in ODI history, leading India to the final.

He rose again in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, scoring a match-winning 76 against South Africa to end India's 11-year ICC trophy drought, and retired from the T20Is.

Further, in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Kohli returned to top form with a century against Pakistan and a crucial fifty against Australia, helping India win the title, which was his fifth ICC trophy to date.

Ellyse Perry’s dominance in ICC tournaments

Ellyse Perry has been one of the dominant players of her, or any generation, as well as a global icon of the game and female sport. She became the youngest Australian ever to play international cricket when she debuted in July 2007, before her 17th birthday, despite never having played a domestic match at the senior level.

She went on to play a vital role in all four of Australia’s World Cup wins over the next 4 years, from 2010 to 2014. However, she will always be remembered for her effort in the 2013 Women's Cricket World Cup final. Perry played a heroic role against the West Indies, battling a severe ankle stress fracture to secure a 114-run victory.

Along the same lines, in the 2020 T20 World Cup, Ellyse Perry suffered a severe campaign-ending hamstring injury. Nonetheless, she was there to lift the trophy with her team in front of a record 86,000 crowd at the MCG.

Many experts suggest that the Australian great is fast approaching the twilight of her career. However, her intensity and passion for the game remain the same even at this stage of her career, as she helped Australia women win their seventh T20 World Cup crown and a stunning 14th women’s World Cup overall.

Widely regarded as the ultimate GOAT of women’s cricket, even at this age, Perry played an instrumental role in leading the Australian Women's team to their historic 2026 T20 World Cup title.

She consistently anchored the batting lineup and earned crucial Player of the Match awards, including a tournament-defining 56 off 38 balls in a record-breaking run chase against India.

How many ICC trophies does Ellyse Perry have?

The Australian legendary all-rounder has won an unmatched 9 ICC trophies, which include two ICC Women's ODI World Cups (2013 and 2022) and a record seven ICC Women's T20 World Cups.

How many more ICC trophies can Perry and Kohli win?

At 35 years old, Ellyse Perry, and at 37 years old, Virat Kohli, have gracefully transitioned from explosive young prodigies into legendary veterans, both known for anchoring their respective sides.

As it seems, Perry is not going anywhere in the next 2 years at least. Thus, she has a chance to add another feather to her cap in the following scheduled tournaments: the 2027 ICC Women's Champions Trophy and the 2028 ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

On the other hand, because Virat has already retired from T20 Internationals following the 2024 triumph, his realistic remaining chances to add to his trophy cabinet lie primarily in 50-over, especially the much-awaited 2027 ODI World Cup.
