Australian legend Ellyse Perry scripted a historic record during the only Test against India Women held at the W.A.C.A Stadium in Perth. She crossed 1000 Test runs to become the leading run-scorer in the format for her team.
Perry started the match with 930 Test runs, which had placed her in third place in the list of most runs scored in Test format for Australia Women. However, March 7 was her day to shatter all the records.
Ellyse Perry becomes the leading run-getter for Australia in the Test
Batting in the second innings at no. 3, Ellyse Perry scored a commanding 76 off 116 balls, including 10 fours and a six. She was fully in control of her shots and was playing beautifully before Deepti Sharma sent her back.
However, until then, Perry had not only put Australia in a strong position but also secured a personal milestone for herself. With her 76-run knock, Perry surpassed the 1000-run mark in Test cricket.
At 1005 runs, Ellyse Perry is now the leading run-scorer in the Test format for Australian Women, thus surpassing Karen Rolton’s previous record of 1002 runs.
Most Test runs for Australia Women
- Ellyse Perry - 1005 runs
- Karen Rolton - 1002 runs
- Belinda Clark - 919 runs
- Betty Wilson - 862 runs
- Denise Annetts - 819 runs
What makes this achievement special is also that Perry reached 1000 Test runs in only 15 Tests (24 innings).
She now ranks among the top 10 run-scorers in women’s Test cricket, and her batting average (62) is the highest among the top 10 players. The overall record is still held by England legend Jan Brittin with 1,935 runs.

Perry’s unique all-round record
Apart from this batting record, Ellyse Perry also proved her all-round brilliance. She now has over 1000 Test runs and 39 Test wickets. This makes her the only woman in Test cricket history with 1,000+ runs and 30+ wickets.
This all comes at a time when Perry is not playing at her 100% capability. She came into the match injured with a quad strain. Because of this, she is playing as a specialist batter and not bowling in this Test. Despite the injury, Perry still produced match-shaping innings.
Australia in the lead after Perry-Sutherland's partnership
Coming back to the match, India posted 198 runs in the first innings after Jemimah Rodrigues’ half-century. Shafali Verma and Kashvee Gautam supported her with 35 and 34 runs, respectively.
However, in the second inning, despite getting early breakthroughs of Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchefield, India Women let the momentum slip. Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland stitched a 128-run partnership to put Australia closer to India’s total.
While Perry was dismissed on 76, Sutherland was racing towards her century, and Australia secured the lead at the Tea break on Day 2. For India, Sayali Satghare picked 2 wickets, while Deepti Sharma also got a wicket to her name.
