There were questions about Virat Kohli’s form and calibre when the legendary batter was having a rough time a few years ago. However, as he often does, he hit back at his critics in style, smashing significant knocks one after another to keep his lifelong dream – scoring 100 international centuries – alive.

Only his idol and cricket’s GOAT, Sachin Tendulkar, has achieved the legendary feat, and Kohli, who has notched up 85 international centuries already, is not hundreds of miles behind to get there.

Bangladesh To Host Asia Cup 2027

More importantly, Kohli no longer plays in Tests and T20Is, and the only international format in which he is still active is ODIs. In Virat Kohli’s 100 centuries favour, and of course in an unintentional way, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that the Asia Cup 2027 will be played in a 50-over format, and it will be hosted by Bangladesh.

The main reason the Asia Cup 2027 is being played in the 50-over format is that the ODI World Cup will be held next year in the latter half. Hence, to prepare for the ultimate mega event, teams will compete against each other in the same format.

Earlier, the Asia Cup 2025 took place in India, and it was played in a 20-over format, keeping the T20 World Cup 2026 in mind. Very similarly, the next edition will be played in the ODI format, as the ultimate World Cup is following up.

How Is Virat Kohli's Form?

Talking about Virat Kohli’s 100 centuries, there is a good chance that he will achieve the monstrous feat, as the Afghanistan tour of India 2026 is about to get underway. The series will begin with the India vs Afghanistan Test match, and after that, they will be playing a three-match ODI series, starting from June 13 onwards in Dharamshala.

Kohli has been in supreme touch, and his heroics in IPL 2026 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have reaped rewards. The 37-year-old, who still keeps his fitness at the highest level, made 675 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of over 165 in the competition.

This tally included a well-made 42-ball 75 not out in the IPL 2026 final against the Gujarat Titans, that too in their own backyard, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Riding on his incredible knock, RCB won back-to-back IPL titles, first in 2025 and then in 2026.

How Many Centuries Have Virat Kohli Got In ODIs?

Having played 311 matches already, Virat Kohli has an extraordinary average of 58, having made 14797 runs with 54 centuries.

Unfortunately, he has been ruled out of India versus Afghanistan ODIs out of nowhere, coming in a massive setback for Virat Kohli’s 100 Centuries Dream.
