On Friday, the reigning T20 World Cup champions, India, began their Ireland schedule under a new T20 captain, Shreyas Iyer, at the Stormont Cricket Ground, Belfast. The series holds additional importance as India’s 15-year-old prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, was named in the senior squad after a scintillating IPL 2026 performance.
Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is the youngest ever Indian player to feature in an international squad.
Despite denying a debut in the 1st T20I, the Indian team management is expected to give a few rookies, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prince Yadav, and Suryansh Shegde, opportunities over the course of the series.

- Kwena Maphaka (South Africa) – Made his T20I debut at 18 years and 137 days against West Indies on August 23, 2024.
- Afif Hossain (Bangladesh) – Made his T20I debut at 18 years and 146 days against Sri Lanka on February 15, 2018.
Where does Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stand in the list of youngest players to make T20I debut?
The Bihar-born prodigy earned his maiden national call-up following a sensational season in the IPL 2026 campaign with Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30.

The teenager’s stats in IPL 2026 also include a century and five fifties. His explosive season saw him finish as the tournament’s leading run-scorer while smashing a record 72 sixes.

Sooryavanshi was named Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, Super Sixes of the Season, Orange Cap winner, and Most Valuable Player, capping off a sensational tournament.
Securing a spot in India’s T20I squads for the tours of Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games. He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record.
Now, the focus shifts to when he will make his India debut. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi age on 26th June is 15 Years 91 days. Hence, when compared to the youngest players to debut in T20Is, Vaibhav still has more than a year to beat this record. Hence, fans can expect that he will indeed break the record of the Youngest Ever T20I debutant among full member nations.
