In a jam-packed Lord’s Cricket Ground, Australia women added another golden feather to their cap, winning the coveted ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. In pursuit of the historical win, Sophie Molineux and Co. ended the home side England’s perfect campaign, which had won all six of their matches leading up to the ultimate clash.

Who has won the most women's T20 World Cup titles?

It is worth noting that England had won the inaugural World Cup title. Under the captaincy of Charlotte Edwards, they defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets in the final held at Lord's in London.

Nonetheless, over the years, Australian women have become the most decorated team in the competition.

The 2010 edition, held in the West Indies, saw the emergence of future legends like Ellyse Perry, Stafanie Taylor, and Deandra Dottin. 

The same season, Australia beat New Zealand in the final to claim their first title, under the captaincy of Alex Blackwell. Meanwhile, Sara McGlashan and Diana David finished as the top performers.

Moreover, the Aussies went on to win back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2014, cementing their status as the world beaters.

In the 2012 Women’s T20 World Cup hosted by Sri Lanka, Australia defeated England in the final, as Charlotte Edwards topped the run charts while Julie Hunter was the leading wicket-taker. The following season, the Aussie contingent won another trophy, defeating England again.

India hosted one of the most memorable editions of the tournament in 2016. West Indies produced a stunning upset, beating Australia. 

Notably, the teenager Hayley Matthews and captain Stafanie Taylor put on a record 120-run opening stand to chase down 148 with three balls to spare. Remarkably, on the same day, the West Indies men also won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Moreover, in 2018, 2020, and 2023, Australia returned to winning ways and clinched the title three times in a row, before New Zealand women halted their reign in 2024.

The 9th edition, held in the UAE, witnessed the biggest shocker in its history as the BlackCaps finally broke through, defeating South Africa by 32 runs to win their maiden ICC title in 24 years and only the second since their inception.
