Ellyse Perry has gone where no male cricketer has reached yet as she broke former India opener Rohit Sharma’s massive ICC tournament record. Perry achieved the feat in the ongoing Australia Women vs. Netherlands Women’s game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 tournament.
The Netherlands captain, Babette de Leede, won the toss at the Rose Bowl in Southampton and chose to chase against the mighty Australian team.
And as Ellyse Perry was included in the Australian XI for this game, she became the first cricketer, female or male, to play 50 matches in T20 World Cup tournaments. In men’s cricket, former India captain Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most appearances in the T20 World Cup with 47.

Ellyse Perry shares her views on playing for Australia for a long time
Perry is one of seven female competitors who have participated in all ten tournament editions. With Perry only missing the 2020 semi-final and final due to a hamstring injury, Australia's women have participated in 51 T20 World Cup matches overall.
Suzie Bates (42), Alyssa Healy (42), and Harmanpreet Kaur (41) are the only three women who have participated in more T20 World Cup matches overall than Perry has won.
“It's always just incredibly awesome to be a part of a World Cup, to be a part of an Australian team. It's a special team to play cricket for. I feel incredibly fortunate to have done it for a period of time, and I think certainly over the journey of T20 World Cups and the experience that we've had at every single one of them, they've all been unique and different. " I can't believe I've played 50," Perry told Cricket Australia.
