Saturday afternoon in Hubli turned out to be a historic day for Jammu and Kashmir cricket as they toppled the 8-time Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka in the 2025/26 season final and lifted their first title.
Having reached the final for the first time in their 66-year history, the Paras Dogra-led outfit batted Karnataka out of the match with a mammoth 584-run first innings score. Then, led by Auqib Nabi’s five-for, they bowled the opposition out for just 293 runs and took a 291-run lead, which they went on to extend to 633 runs before they finally declared.
As the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association add the prized Ranji Trophy to their cabinet for the first time, here’s a brief look at the records made by them on their way to glory.

Jammu and Kashmir in 2025/26 became just the 9th team to win the Ranji Trophy title in their first final appearance. The first team to do it was Bombay in 1934/35, and the last was Vidarbha in 2017/18.

2. Pacers to take 60 or more wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season
Jammu and Kashmir lead bowler, Auqib Nabi, joined the exclusive list consisting of only two pacers and became only the third one to pick 60 or more wickets in a Ranji Trophy season. He was also the leading wicket-taker in the country in this season after finishing as the highest-wicket-taking pacer in 2024/25 as well.

3. Most Runs for Jammu and Kashmir in a season
Abdul Samad, who was instrumental in the knockout stages of the competition, became the batter with the third-most runs for Jammu and Kashmir in a Ranji Trophy season with 748 runs. Previously, only two batters had breached the 700-run mark for them. Samad is the first one to cross 700 runs since Shubham Khajuria and Ian Dev Singh in 2016/17.

4. Most First Class wickets for a Jammu and Kashmir bowler
Bowling spearhead Nabi became only the fourth Jammu and Kashmir bowler to complete 150 First Class wickets after Samiullah Beigh, Parvez Rasool and Ram Dayal. Nabi averages the best among the four, with 18.30 runs conceded for every wicket at a strike rate of 38.03.

Nabi's 5/54 in the first innings against Karnataka made him only the 6th bowler to pick a five-wicket haul in all three knockout matches of a single Ranji Trophy season. The last time it was achieved was by Rajneesh Gurbani in 2017/18.

After adding their names to the history books, Jammu and Kashmir will have a chance to achieve another landmark before the 2026/27 season commences. They will face the Rest of India in the Irani Cup, where the best 11 players from across the nation will be playing for the opposition.
Additionally, greater opportunities beckon for the star performer Auqib Nabi, who could also get an India call-up with the New Zealand tour coming up later in 2026.
