Jos Buttler's torrid form in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup continued on Friday evening at the R Premadasa Stadium as England faced New Zealand in a Super 8 match. After coming into the match with four consecutive single-digit scores in the tournament, the explosive opener scored a two-ball duck as the 2022 champions looked to chase 160.

With the silver duck on a Lockie Ferguson delivery that he nicked straight to Tim Seifert behind the stumps, the former England captain went to the top of an unfortunate list.

Alongside some of the remarkable records to his name, like being the most capped England player and the England batter with most T20I runs, he also became the Englishman with the most T20I ducks.

Upon being asked to chase 160 runs to finish top of their Super 8 group and getting out on the duck, Buttler went past the duo of Moeen Ali and Luke Wright in the list. Now he has 10 T20I ducks in his illustrious career, and the duo are joint-second with 9 scores of zero each.

Most T20I ducks for England

1. Jos Buttler - 10 ducks in 142 innings.

2. Moeen Ali - 9 ducks in 75 innings.

2. Luke Wright - 9 ducks in 45 innings.

4. Jason Roy - 7 ducks in 65 innings.

5. Jonny Bairstow - 6 ducks in 72 innings.

5. Phil Salt - 6 ducks in 55 innings

Buttler's concerning form in T20 World Cup 2026

The England opener, who is considered their greatest white ball batters, came into the tournament with a few good ODI and T20I innings against Sri Lanka. However, as the T20 mega event started, he has only managed the best score of 26 (17) against Nepal in their opening match.

Since the Nepal match, he scored 21 (14) against West Indies, followed by a string of single-digit scores, reading 3 (4), 3 (4), 7 (14), 2 (3) and 0 (2). Alongside him, Phil Salt has also blown hot and cold, which meant the England batting order has not had the best of times in the tournament.

They have had some rescue knocks from the middle-order throughout the tournament and will look for him to find his form in the all-important semi-final and the potential final.

England aims for historic third T20 World Cup

Having lost only one match ahead of the New Zealand clash in the tournament, England cruised past to the final four of the tournament. Despite some batting collapses, they cruised past Sri Lanka and Pakistan to book their berth in the semi-final.

If they manage to chase down 160 against the Kiwis, they will finish at the top of their Super 8 group and subsequently face the runner-ups of the other group. If they lose and finish second, they could face South Africa in the semi-final.

So far, England are level with India and West Indies with two trophies each β€” the last one they won came under the out-of-form Jos Buttler in 2022. If they manage to win the third title, they will be the first team to achieve this feat, and Buttler will be crucial for this to happen.
