The final of the 91st edition of the Ranji Trophy concluded on February 28, 2026, with Jammu and Kashmir winning their first-ever title in the coveted championship. The Paras Dogra-led J&K made history by defeating Karnataka after a thumping 291-run first innings lead.

The Ranji Trophy was first introduced in the 1934-35 season under the name “Cricket Championship of India,” and was renamed the following year.

It is worth noting that the inaugural edition was won by Mumbai (previously Bombay), which is now the most successful team in the Ranji Trophy with 42 trophies to their name. Meanwhile, Ajit Wadekar and C. K. Nayudu are regarded as the most successful captains in the premier first-class tournament, having led their teams, Mumbai and Holkar, to the trophy 4 times each.

Paras Dogra wins maiden Ranji title for J&K

Jammu and Kashmir have ended a 67-year wait for a Ranji Trophy title, and have done it in some style, completely dominating the 8-time title holders Karnataka and finishing with a 633-run lead for their first-ever domestic First Class success.

The Paras Dogra-led side became the ninth team in the tournament’s history to win the championship in its maiden final appearance.

“I can’t explain, to be honest. I don’t have any words right now. It’s the biggest thing right now in my life. This will be with me till the time I go away from this world,” said Captain Dogra to the broadcasters after the game.

With contributions from almost everyone in the squad, J&K was able to pull off the unthinkable. It beat Bengal convincingly in the semifinal and carried over the momentum into the final, showcasing all-around supremacy.
