Jammu and Kashmir achieved the unthinkable to lift their maiden Ranji Trophy title on February 28. They beat Karnataka in the final held at Hubli to script history, and fans went berserk on the internet.

After 67 years since its debut in the tournament, J&K delivered the performance of a lifetime to achieve a dream that almost seemed impossible at one stage.

Fans go wild as Jammu and Kashmir lift the Ranji Trophy

The match began on February 24 at Hubli. Jammu and Kashmir batted first and set the tone right. Shubham Pundir hit 121 off 247 balls with quality contributions from Yawer Hasan (88), Paras Dogra (70), Abdul Samad (61), Sahil Lotra (72) and Kanhaiya Wadhawan (70).

Courtesy to his all-round performance, J&K posted 584 runs. This batting performance was backed up by the bowlers as they restricted Karnataka to 293 runs only. Auqib Nabi claimed a match-winning five-wicket-haul.

Jammu and Kashmir, with a big lead in hand, declared their second innings at 342 runs after Qamran Iqbal slammed an unbeaten 160 off 311 balls. Lotra added 101* more runs to put J&K closer to victory.

Skipper Paras Dogra then declared the innings, and both sides shook hands to end the match in a draw. Since Jammu had a big lead in hand, they were declared winners.

As soon as Dogra and Devdutt Padikkal shook hands, the J&K skipper signalled his team to storm into the field. The entire team went berserk and celebrated as if there were no tomorrow.

Meanwhile, fans on social media lost their cool and hailed Jammu and Kashmir for their historic victory. Many supporters lauded the team’s hardwork and perseverance through these decades.

Auqib Nabi was declared the player of the series

That being said, J&K fast bowler Auqib Nabi was declared the player of the series for this year’s Ranji Trophy 2025-26 series. He claimed 60 wickets in 10 games at a 12.57 average with seven five-fers.

In the post-match presentation, Nabi was overwhelmed and expressed pure disbelief and joy at Jammu & Kashmir winning their first-ever Ranji Trophy title.

"Yes, it feels unbelievable because this is the first time we’ve won the Ranji Trophy. It still doesn’t feel real that we’ve won it. When I started playing for J&K, my dream was always to win a trophy - especially the Ranji Trophy in red-ball cricket. We’ve been trying for a long time. There was a lot of hard work and a lot of struggle. The whole team worked together, and finally we’ve won this cup," Nabi said.

Since the day he started playing for J&K, lifting the Ranji Trophy in red-ball cricket had been his ultimate goal.

He also showed deep gratitude toward his family, teammates, and the people of Jammu & Kashmir for their constant support, messages, and prayers.

"Everyone has supported me a lot. Without their support on this journey, I wouldn’t be here today. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. I also want to thank the people of Jammu and Kashmir - in these days I’ve received so many messages, wishes, and prayers. I’m very grateful to all of them. My message would be this: even if you don’t have facilities, even if resources are limited, just work hard and don’t think about anything else. Give it your all and keep inspiring others through your dedication," he added.
