The KKR franchise seems to have suffered a fresh injury scare in the middle of their newfound winning momentum this IPL 2026 season. Ace spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was recently spotted walking around with a leg brace around his left foot.
A social media video of the same went viral on Sunday, May 10, i.e., just a couple of days prior to the team’s all-important match against defending champions RCB. This development could potentially indicate an ankle or foot-related injury concern, placing his availability for the crucial fixture under a cloud.
Varun Chakaravarthy hints injury, availability for RCB match looks unlikely
On Sunday, May 10, Varun Chakaravarthy was spotted walking around the hotel lobby while wearing a leg brace. The cricketer also looked a bit uncomfortable walking and he was holding a cane.
While the exact timeline of the viral clip remains unverified as of now, Chakaravarthy did feel an injury scare during KKR’s previous match against the Delhi Capitals franchise this past week. Bowling his quota of four overs in Delhi in match number 51 of the IPL 2026 season, the 34-year-old did not look comfortable and appeared to limp in his spell.

He also went for a medical check at one stage of the match, near the boundary line when he looked to be struggling with pain on the field. After he completed his spell, Varun Chakaravarthy walked off the field and remained in the dug-out for the remainder of the match.
Chakaravarthy’s latest injury scare against the Capitals, and the trending social media video indicates that the cricketer might well be ruled out of the KKR playing XI for the match against RCB on May 13 in Raipur.
Varun Chakaravarthy: A vital cog in KKR’s insurgence
Varun Chakaravarthy has proven to be formidable force in KKR’s insurgence this IPL 2026 season. The cricketer has picked up eight wickets in his last four matches, which included match-winning three-wicket hauls against the Rajasthan Royals in Kolkata and against the SRH in Hyderabad on April 19 and May 3 respectively.
Interestingly, this four-match stretch also coincided with KKR’s remarkable winning sequence after the franchise started the IPL 2026 season with five defeats in a row.
Overall, the senior KKR spinner has bagged 10 wickets in eight innings this tournament at an average of 25.
KKR to face RCB in another must-win game
With four wins, five defeats and a no-result from 10 matches, the KKR franchise is currently ranked seventh on the IPL 2026 points table. They will now take on defending champions RCB in match number 57 of the tournament on Wednesday, May 3.
The match will be hosted by the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards. In a bid to remain in contention for the playoffs race, it is imperative for the Ajinkya Rahane-led side to make the most of its winning momentum.
