Urvil Patel was the talk of the town on Sunday evening as the Chennai Super Kings toppled the Lucknow Super Giants at the Chepauk to go in the top half of the points table.
After putting LSG in to bat first in the afternoon game of the double-header, the hosts were taken aback by Josh Inglis’ 85 off 33 with 10 fours and six sixes, which helped the visitors reach 203/8 after the first innings. However, chasing the target, the swashbuckling Urvil Patel took away all the headlines by bringing up his maiden IPL fifty.
Notably, ahead of the second fixture of the day, Virat Kohli was seen having his eyes on the top-order batter from Gujarat in his element as he prepared for the big clash against MI.

While batting second in the afternoon match, Urvil Patel, who has a reputation for scoring freely in the domestic circuit, was once again batting at number 3 after he replaced the injured Ayush Mhatre in the playing XI earlier in the season.
Having shown glimpses of his brute power previously as well, this was the first time Urvil Patel faced more than 20 balls in an innings and ended up equalling the record of the fastest IPL fifty in 13 balls. He finished his blistering knock with 65 off 23 with 8 mammoth sixes and two fours.
In Raipur, preparing for his match against the Mumbai Indians to potentially go top of the table, Virat Kohli was seen taking a break from his warm-up session to stand and watch the historic knock.

Notably, Urvil Patel also holds the record of the second-fastest T20 century and the fastest for an Indian, having scored a 28-ball ton back in 2024 against Tripura.

Chennai Super Kings bounce back strong
Having started the IPL 2026 season on a torrid note, the Chennai Super Kings have won six of their last 8 matches to stage an epic comeback in MS Dhoni’s absence. Now, after playing 11 matches, they are back in the top half of the points table with 12 points.
Despite starting the season with three losses on the bounce, they have their destiny in their hands to make it to the final four. From the final three matches, they need to win at least two to secure a spot in the final four. In their next three matches, they face SRH and GT, who are also in contention for the playoffs, and they could cancel them out in the four-pointer.
Virat Kohli and RCB look to regain momentum
Over the last two years, RCB have been one of the most consistent teams in the season and have a formidable unit to defend their title.
They started IPL 2026 with 6 wins in 8 matches, but dropped points in consecutive fixtures ahead of the big game against MI. At their new home, they have started to powerplay well, with the Purple Cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalping three wickets.
A win here would take them straight to number 1 on the points table, where they will be level on points with SRH and GT. Virat Kohli scoring big will remain instrumental for them to finish in the top-4.
