Rohit Sharma is one of the greats of the IPL, and his wicket is key for any opposition team. The Mumbai Indians batter has the ability to change the course of the match quickly, and hence, whenever he gets dismissed, the opponent breathes a sigh of relief.
This is exactly what RCB felt during the IPL2026 game against MI, as Rohit Sharma started on an aggressive note, and he created panic inside the RCB dressing room. However, one bad shot, and the opener was sent packing, and the importance of the wicket could be described in Virat Kohli's celebration.
Kohli celebrates on Rohit Sharma's face as MI opener dismissed cheaply
Ryan Rickelton departed in the first over, and Rohit took the centre stage as the former MI captain wanted to be the chief aggressor. He played Bhuvneshwar Kumar carefully, but targeted Josh Hazlewood in the next over.
He smacked two back-to-back sixes, and it was followed by a boundary against Bhuvneshwar as Rohit quickly raced to 22 off 9 before the RCB pacer struck. Bhuvneshwar bowled a good-length ball as Rohit nicked it, and Jitesh Sharma took a sharp catch behind the stumps.

The entire stadium erupted in joy, and so did the RCB side, who knew the importance of the wicket. However, it was Virat Kohli’s celebration that caught the attention. The RCB great jumped in the air, and made a loud roar as he looked jubilant after the big fish went back.

His last fifty-plus score against RCB came in the 2018 edition, when he smacked a brilliant 94 off 52 deliveries. Since then, the runs have dried up against the defending IPL champions.
His last five IPL scores against RCB read, 22, 19*, 17, 38, 7. The Red Army have often tied him up in terms of runs, and while MI has dominated RCB, Rohit has not managed to do it in the last 8 seasons, and the trend continued on Sunday as well.
