In a significant development, Lucknow Super Giants have become the first team in IPL 2026 to be knocked out of the playoff race. Notably, the Rishabh Pant-led side suffered a five-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk to bow out of the tournament.

Lucknow Super Giants Fail To Get Past CSK Challenge
In the do-or-die game, Lucknow Super Giants got off to the perfect start as Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis stitched a 77-run stand for the 1st wicket. Notably, things went downhill after the first breakthrough as the Rishabh Pant-led side lost wickets at regular intervals.
Eventually, the Sanjiv Goenka-owned side put 203 runs on the board. In reply, CSK lost an early wicket but Urvil Patel took the game away from the Super Giants. The right-handed batter scored 13-ball fifty, a record for joint-fastest fifty.
Towards the death overs, LSG returned to the hunt as they put breaks on the scoring rate. However, Aiden Markram failed to defend 10 runs in the last over, resulting in LSG bowing out of the league.
