Varun Chakaravarthy, the star spinner of Kolkata Knight Riders, has redeemed himself with the ball against Rajasthan Royals in the April 19 clash at the Eden Gardens.
The KKR vs RR IPL match saw Varun Chakaravarthy scalp three wickets while giving away only 14 runs from his four-over spell.
While it was a solid comeback for a bowler who has been struggling with form since the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, a hidden pain was also revealed as Varun spoke in the post-match press conference while collecting his Player of the Match award.
Chakaravarthy’s Below Par IPL 2026 Season
Varun Chakaravarthy's IPL 2026 so far has been below par. Before the Gujarat Titans clash on April 17, Varun was wicketless, all while giving away a considerable number of runs with his bowling. It was only against the Gujarat Titans that he bounced back to scalp two wickets, but also conceded 34 runs in the process.
Against Rajasthan Royals, Chakaravarthy scripted a comeback when he exerted pressure on the top order by taking key wickets of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel, while also troubling Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag.
With the solid turnaround helping the team in IPL 2026, Chakaravarthy shared how he managed to make a comeback after having two fractures in his hand.
Varun Chakaravarthy Reveals Bowling With Pain
Speaking after the match, Chakaravarthy revealed that he was injured earlier in the season and still had two fractures in his left hand while bowling on April 19.
"I think we all deserved this win, even though it's just one win, it feels very sweet. In the first few matches (of the season) I was injured, I had two fractures. I still have two fractures in my left hand. So I'm just trying to manage that,” Varun said after the match.
For the unaware, Varun Chakaravarthy was ruled out for a few games after injuring himself while attempting a risky catch against Sunrisers Hyderabad. As he dived forward to grab the catch, his fingers went under the ball, which might have caused a serious fracture that he still carries.

Nevertheless, injuries were never an option when Chakaravarthy was bowling. Regarding the Eden Gardens pitch, Chakaravarthy also shared how both the team and the Eden Gardens surface are slowly turning things around.
"I would say it (pitch) was a little slow, but it was perfectly suitable for us and we made the most of it. And I think we could have batted a little better in the middle, but all well. Yeah, we don't know where we'll end up, but we are just making a statement that we are not pushovers.
We are just not coming here to participate. We are here to win every match. We are here to make a strong contention for the trophy. We still have hopes and I think we are gonna do well from this," Varun added after the IPL match.
KKR Script Fairytale Win Against RR
Varun Chakaravarthy's three-fer, alongside Kartik Tyagi's three-wicket haul and Sunil Narine’s two wickets, helped KKR bundle out Rajasthan for 155 runs.
Kolkata also had early hiccups, with both Tim Seifert and Ajinkya Rahane dismissed for ducks. Angkrish Raghuvanshi too failed to make an impact in the IPL clash. It was only the middle and lower middle order that helped the Kolkata Knight Riders register their first win of the tournament.
In the chase, Rinku Singh played a composed, unbeaten 53 to keep fans on the edge of their seats, finishing the game in style in the final over when 12 runs were required.
