India blanked Afghanistan in the third ODI to record one of their biggest win margins in history, at least in terms of number of balls remaining in a chase of over 200 runs. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his electric five-wicket haul in the game.
Following India’s win, here is an updated look at three of India’s biggest wins in ODI matches, in terms of balls remaining while chasing 200 or more runs.

3. 117 vs England, Birmingham, 2014 (Target-207)
Team India walloped hosts England by nine wickets in the fourth ODI of their five-match away series back in September 2014. Under the leadership of then captain MS Dhoni, India bowlers restricted England to just 206 in 49.3 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up two wickets with the new ball in his economical spell, while Mohammed Shami unfurled tight figures of 3-28 from his 7.3 overs. Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina also picked up four wickets between them.

Chasing 207 for a win, Indian openers Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan started off with a monumental 183-run opening partnership in just 28.4 overs. Rahane smeared 106 runs off just 100 balls with 10 boundaries and four huge sixes before his dismissal to Harry Gurney.
Dhawan raced to 97* off 81 as India cruised past England in just 30.3 overs. Winning the match with 117 balls remaining, the ‘Men in Blue’ also went 3-0 up in the five-match ODI series.
2. 127 vs Sri Lanka, Dambulla, 2017 (Target-217)
Team India started off its five-match ODI series in Sri Lanka back in August 2017 with a clinical win in Dambulla. Winning the toss and opting to field first, Virat Kohli and co. folded up Sri Lanka for just 216 in 43.2 overs, even though the hosts had reached a commanding 1-139 around the halfway stage of the innings.
Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, and part-timer Kedar Jadhav all picked up two wickets each, while ace spinner Axar Patel bagged figures of 3-34 from his 10 overs.
In response, India lost opener Rohit Sharma for just four off 13 balls in the fifth over of the innings. Shikhar Dhawan, however, went on to cart an unbeaten 132 from just 90 deliveries.
The legendary left-handed opener clattered 20 boundaries and three huge sixes in the innings, and crafted 197 runs for the second wicket with then captain and prolific number three Virat Kohli.
Kohli himself remained unbeaten at 82* off 70 balls with 10 boundaries and a six as India blazed past Sri Lanka by nine wickets and with more than 21 overs to spare, 127 balls to be specific.
1. 128 vs Afghanistan, Chennai, 2026 (Target-219)
With a 2-0 lead in the pocket, India crossed paths with Afghanistan in the third ODI of their three-match series at home in June 2026. Bowling first at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna picked up four wickets with the new ball, which included the prized scalps of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmat Shah.
The speedster also dismissed visiting skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi during the slog overs after the latter slapped a scintillating century to take Afghanistan to a respectable 218. Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey also picked up a wicket each in the innings.
Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma responded strongly, with the duo forming up a 170-run opening partnership in just 22.5 overs.
Rohit launched nine boundaries and three huge sixes in his electrifying 69-ball 79. Shreyas Iyer at number three chipped in with a swift 20*, while unbeaten Jaiswal plundered 110* runs off 86 balls to muscle his second ODI century.
India stormed past Afghanistan by nine wickets and with 128 balls left in the bank to seal the three-match ODI series 3-0.
