Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to launch a women’s equivalent of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Currently serving the Pakistan Women’s team as its mentor, the cricketer-turned-coach stressed the importance of a Women’s T20 league, and added that Pakistan Women’s players should also participate in overseas leagues to gain valuable exposure.
Wahab Riaz further stated the importance of Pakistan’s upcoming historic white-ball series against the visiting Zimbabwe Women’s team, just ahead of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
Pakistan mentor wants Women’s PSL
Pakistan Women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz has urged the PCB to launch a Women’s PSL type T20 league in the country. The former cricketer also advocated for a greater Pakistani presence in overseas T20 leagues in a bid to provide valuable learning opportunities for female cricketers.

While speaking with Geo News in Lahore on Monday, April 13, Wahab Riaz said “They will learn a great deal from that experience, and the standard of cricket will improve.”
A Women’s PSL, if initiated by the PCB, will likely run in tandem with the men’s PSL, much like how The Hundred competition operates in England. In such a case, the Pakistani board will be shoehorning yet another T20 league during the IPL window.
While PSL and IPL seasons were organized in different months for many years, the two leagues have coincided with each other in their last two editions owing to PCB’s forced scheduling.
However, the board might also follow Australia’s Big Bash or India’s IPL and WPL templates, by scheduling men’s PSL and women’s PSL separately.
It is worth noting that earlier this month, PSL CEO Salman Naseer did gave a hint of announcing something around Pakistan Women’s cricket around the PSL 2026 final. During a press conference, he said “We will announce something for women's cricket around the Pakistan Super League final.”
Wahab Riaz prepares Pakistan Women for T20 World Cup 2026
The Pakistan Women’s team is placed in Group A of the upcoming 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England. Speaking about the team’s preparations for the tournament, Wahab Riaz has urged his players to not feel threatened of any opposition.
He said “We must not focus on the group; we simply need to believe in ourselves. T20 is a format where any team can beat another on their day.”
Pakistan to host Zimbabwe Women in historic series
The Pakistan Women’s team is scheduled to host Zimbabwe Women for a historic white-ball series between April 29 and May 15. All six matches will be hosted by the National Stadium in Karachi.
Zimbabwe’s trip will mark their first-ever women’s bilateral tour of Pakistan, and the two sides will be taking on each other in three ODIs and three T20I matches.
While the ODI series will form a part of the ICC Women's Championship 2025-2029, the T20Is will serve as Pakistan’s testing ground before the 2026 T20 World Cup.
