The Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Tuesday made a groundbreaking development to challenge the Asian competitors India and Bangladesh. The PCB, which made headlines in 2021 by updating its parental support policy with a 12-month fully-paid leave for women, once again is set to do something remarkable for female cricketers of their country.

The BCCI, which holds authority over India’s cricket, launched the Women’s Premier League (WPL) back in 2022. Better late than never, the BCB, the elite cricket body for Bangladesh, followed the similar path by announcing the Women’s Bangladesh Premier League last month. The PCB, looking at the developments, is set to go in the same direction.

PSL CEO Hints At Inaugural Women's Pakistan T20 League

During a press conference, PSL CEO Salman Naseer gave a hint that the women’s PSL is not far away from becoming the global event hosted by Pakistan. Naseer, while commenting on the Women’s T20 league, told the media that they will make an announcement somewhere around the final of PSL 2026.

"We will announce something for women's cricket around the Pakistan Super League final," PSL CEO Salman Naseer said.

Notably, it was Ramiz Raja, the former PCB chairman, who proposed launching the PSL league for women back in 2021. Even though it was not executed properly due to unknown reasons back then, when WPL was not even a topic of discussion, the PSL and the PCB management appear to have finally come together to make it happen.

Lahore vs Hyderabad To Begin PSL 11

In another development, Lahore Qalandars and PSL debutants Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen will go up against each other to kick off the upcoming edition of the PSL. Although the official schedule is still pending, most likely to be confirmed next week, the opening ceremony and the first match of PSL 2026 will be held in Lahore.

At the same time, the PSL CEO also responded to a question regarding the tournament being played outside Pakistan.

"The schedule will be announced later this week, so everything will become clear. But definitely, this was an issue under consideration — that our overseas Pakistanis also want to enjoy the PSL and experience it," Naseer added.

"Now, as we are becoming a global league, maybe we should take at least one match overseas. Whether that will happen this year or next year, you will get clarity by the end of this week."

Even though the official PSL 2026 has yet to be released, there is almost certainly going to be a clash with the upcoming edition of the IPL. Even though the IPL 2026 schedule is yet to be officially confirmed, the previous reports have indicated that the PSL 2026 is set to get underway on March 26, two or three days before the reported IPL 2026 commencement.
