In an important update, Pakistan cricketer Naseem Shah broke his silence after the PCB imposed a PKR 20 million fine on him for posting a political tweet. The fine was released, citing breach of player contract protocols.
Naseem landed in trouble after a tweet from his X account questioned the treatment of politician Maryam Nawaz during a PSL event at Gaddafi Stadium. The post quickly went viral and sparked backlash.
Naseem Shah issues a public apology
The PCB later investigated the matter and found that it violated the player's central contract clauses. As a result, the board imposed a fine of PKR 20 million on Naseem Shah after a disciplinary hearing.
This turned out to be the heaviest fine ever imposed on a Pakistani player. After the sanctions were levelled, Naseem broke his silence on social media.
On the same X account, he issued a public apology and claimed the tweet was posted by his management team and does not align with his views. Regardless, he took full responsibility for his platform and apologised.
"A recent post from my account was made by my management team and does not reflect my views. I take full responsibility for my platform and have implemented the necessary changes to ensure this does not happen again. I sincerely apologise to everyone affected by this misuse of my platform," Shah said on X.
Earlier, Naseem Shah claimed that his X account was hacked. However, his story has now changed after PCB’s verdict.

Naseem Shah’s social media manager was blacklisted
That being said, the key culprit behind the whole fiasco was Naseem Shah’s social media manager. According to PCB’s investigation, the manager posted the tweet and was held accountable.
He has now been blacklisted from managing any Pakistan cricketer in the future. Not only that, but Naseem also fired him on the spot. Regardless, Shah cannot evade responsibility, as he was still the owner of the platform.
This incident is yet another example of how seriously cricket boards treat player conduct on social media, especially when it involves political figures. Even indirect or unintended posts can lead to heavy penalties.
When Aamer Jamal faced a similar fate
Before Naseem, Aamer Jamal was also punished for making a political statement. During Pakistan’s home Test series against England in late 2025, Jamal turned up to a training session wearing a cap with “804” written underneath it.
“804” is apparently the prisoner number of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been jailed since 2023. The gesture was hence seen as a political statement of support, even though Jamal did not make any comment publicly.
This was seen as a violation of the player's central contract rules, and hence, PCB took action. The board fined Aamer Jamal PKR 1 million, and at that time, it was considered a harsh and controversial penalty.
However, while Jamal had to pay just PKR 1 million, Naseem Shah faced a stricter penalty of PKR 20 million, which again gave rise to another controversy.
