The Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a severe punishment on fast-bowling maverick Naseem Shah. On Monday, March 30, the board not only penalized the speedster, but also demanded an unconditional apology from him.
It is worth noting that Naseem became the subject of PCB’s wrath after he allegedly made a controversial tweet around Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz.
Naseem Shah punished by Mohsin Naqvi’s PCB
The PCB, led by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, has reportedly imposed a fine of PKR 2 crores on fast bowler Naseem Shah for “violating the terms of the PCB central contract” as well as the “media policy and regulations”.

The board also initiated disciplinary proceedings against the pacer, following which he issued an unconditional apology.
Furthermore, Naseem Shah’s social media manager has now been terminated and is also blacklisted from working with any other PCB contracted player.
How did Naseem Shah violated PCB’s media policy?
Last weekend, the PCB shared a special video on social media where several board officials can be seen welcoming and greeting Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz before the opening match of the PSL 2026 season. She was also greeted by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with players from the Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise also meeting her.
The occasion seemingly irked Naseem Shah, as he took to X and questioned the board for giving her ‘special treatment’ at a time when PSL 2026 matches are already being played behind closed doors. He wrote “Why is she treated like the queen at lords?”

The post has since been deleted, and Naseem has distanced himself from the controversy by claiming that his social media account was “hacked” at the time.
The PCB subsequently issued a show-cause notice to the Pakistan fast bowler, and threatened the speedster for facing the consequences of his actions for violating the board’s social media guidelines.
Maryam Nawaz hits back at Naseem for PSL 2026 dig
The social media team of Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz also hit back at Naseem over his controversial and now-deleted social media post. Shortly after the controversy gained traction, Maryam’s political party PML-N took to social media and jokingly answered the cricketer’s question.
They wrote “Why is she treated like a queen at Lord’s because she is a symbol of resilience and courage.”
What’s next for Naseem Shah?
Battered and bruised by Peshawar Zalmi, and sanctioned by the PCB, Naseem Shah will now look to regroup and return stronger in his side’s next PSL 2026 outing. Representing the RawalPindiZ franchise under the leadership of national teammate Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem will now go up against the Karachi Kings in match number 10 of the tournament.
The match will be hosted by the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday, April 2 later this week.
Naseem started off his PSL 2026 campaign with dismal bowling figures of 0-51 from his four overs against Peshawar Zalmi.
