In a major update, New Zealand Cricket has announced the white-ball squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Bangladesh.
The series will include six matches in total, which means three ODIs and three T20Is. At the same time, these matches will clash with major T20 leagues like the IPL 2026 and PSL 2026.
Therefore, several New Zealand players who are playing in these leagues will not be available for this series.
Bangladesh to host New Zealand for three ODIs and T20I each
Notably, the Kiwis are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on April 13 for the tour. The ODI series will begin first. The first two ODI matches will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on April 17 and April 20. After that, both teams will travel to Chattogram for the third ODI on April 23.
Following the ODI series, the T20I series will begin. The first two T20 matches will be played in Chattogram on April 27 and April 29. Finally, the last T20 match will be played in Dhaka on May 2.
Tom Latham to lead Black Caps
With the squad announcement, it was confirmed that Tom Latham will lead the New Zealand team in both ODIs and T20Is. Regular white-ball captain Mitchell Santner is not available for this series as he is playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026. Therefore, Latham has been given the responsibility to captain the side in both formats.
It is also worth mentioning that several fast bowlers are also returning to the team after recovering from injuries. Will O’Rourke is returning after a back injury and has been selected for the ODI squad.
Notably, Matt Fisher is returning from a shin injury and has been included in the T20I squad. Blair Tickner is also making a return after an ankle injury and he has been selected in both ODI and T20I squads.
After the squad announcement, the Kiwis head coach Rob Walter shared his thoughts about the team selection. He said that Will O’Rourke, Blair Tickner and Matt Fisher worked very hard over the past few months to recover from their injuries and return to the team.
"Will, Blair and Matt have been working very hard over the past few months to get themselves back on the park and back in contention for selection, and we're pleased to welcome them back into the group," said Walter.
Bevon Jacobs likely to leave PSL
Another important update is related to Bevon Jacobs. Notably, he has been selected in the New Zealand T20I squad. At present, he is part of the Quetta Gladiators team in PSL 2026. He has not played a match yet in the tournament.
Since New Zealand series will take place at the same time, he is expected to leave the PSL before the tournament ends on May 3 and join the national team.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh have already started preparing for the series. The team began their practice sessions at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on March 27.
