Chennai Super Kings have timed their run to perfection in IPL 2026. After looking down and out a few weeks ago, the Men in Yellow have stitched together three consecutive victories as they secured a crucial five-wicket win over the Lucknow Super Giants in Match 53 on Sunday.

The result has lifted CSK to fifth place on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches, and suddenly, the playoff door is wide open.

After winning the toss, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opted to bowl first, but CSK were put on the back foot early as Josh Inglis came out all guns blazing. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter tore into the bowling attack as he smoked 85 off just 33 deliveries with 10 fours and six sixes, helping LSG race to 91/1 in the powerplay.

Just when it looked like the Super Giants would run away with the game, CSK’s bowlers pulled things back admirably in the middle overs by chipping away with regular wickets. A valuable unbeaten 43 off 25 balls from Shahbaz Ahmed gave LSG a strong finish as they posted 203/8.

Asked to chase 204, CSK showed no signs of nerves. Sanju Samson gave them an explosive start with 28 off 14 balls. The real fireworks, however, came from Urvil Patel, who played a jaw-dropping knock of 65 off just 23 balls as he brought up a joint-fastest 13-ball fifty in IPL history.

Gaikwad played the anchor role with a composed 42 off 28 balls, and the finishing touches were applied by Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer, who guided CSK home with five wickets to spare.

How can CSK qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs?

The equation is straightforward. CSK need to win two of their remaining three league matches to reach 16 points, which should be enough to secure a playoff berth. With a healthy net run rate of +0.185, they also hold a strong advantage if qualification comes down to a tie on points.

A top-two finish is still within reach as well. If CSK win all three remaining matches, they will move to 18 points and give themselves a genuine shot at finishing in the top two, which would provide two bites at the cherry to reach the IPL 2026 final.
