Urvil Patel for CSK [Source: AFP]
The LSG vs CSK clash on May 10 has been a highlight reel for the CSK youngster Urvil Patel, as the young gun took on the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers during Chennai's chase of 204 runs at Chepauk.
He already racked up a super impressive 13-ball fifty to break multiple IPL records at a go. While this seems like a youngster breaking into the circuit, for those unaware, Urvil Patel's carnage now feels like a sequel that had been waiting to appear on the big stage.
Exactly 18 months ago, in November 2024, Urvil authored a knock that made history. He became the fastest T20 centurion by an Indian and the second-fastest ever in the format.
Back when Urvil Patel broke into the scene with blistering feats
Back in the November 2024 match at Indore, Gujarat were chasing 156 runs against Tripura in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Urvil, opening the batting, turned the day into a record-making factory. Patel reached his century in just 28 deliveries, smashing 12 sixes and seven boundaries along the way.
This alone scripted a record as no Indian had ever done it much faster than Patel. Rishabh Pant's 32-ball hundred in the same tournament was considered the benchmark for domestic T20 brutality for a long time.
However, it suddenly turned out to be the second-best behind Patel. In world rankings, Estonia's Sahil Chauhan had a 27-ball century earlier that year, which stood ahead of Patel in the rankings.
Action Replay from 2023
Urvil Patel finished the match unbeaten on 113 off 35 deliveries, and Gujarat chased down the target in 10.2 overs with all 10 wickets in hand.
It was indeed an audition for his IPL call-up into the yellow camp. However, what was more charismatic was that exactly one year earlier, back in 2023, Urvil had a similar appearance where he slammed a 41-ball century in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy. It was also the second-fastest List A hundred by an Indian after Yusuf Pathan's 40-ball mayhem.
Patel played that knock just a day after being released by Gujarat Titans since he only warmed the bench throughout IPL 2023 without a single game.

Urvil makes mega comeback on the IPL 2026 stage
Despite that history-making knock, the IPL 2025 mega auction came and went without a paddle raised for Patel's name. He was in the uncapped wicketkeepers' list. But in a twist of fate, CSK eventually gave Urvil the platform he craved by roping him later.
In the Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings game, the young gun scored 65 runs off 23 deliveries, as he currently boasts a strike rate of 234.04 from the four matches he has played in IPL 2026.
Even though he couldn't replicate his heroics from 2024 for CSK, his initial burst in the LSG vs CSK game has escalated and elevated Chennai's chances of chasing the mammoth total of 204 runs with ease.
After Urvil Patel was dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed, the yellow army stood at 131 runs for the loss of two wickets after 10 overs.
