CSK has made some blunders in the ongoing IPL 2026, but including Urvil Patel in the playing XI was not one of them. When Ayush Mhatre got injured, CSK needed a solid like-for-like replacement, and Patel was slotted in his place, and the move worked magic on Sunday.

In the IPL 2026 match between CSK and LSG at the Chepauk, the Super Kings were set a tricky target of 204, and the total was always going to be difficult against a strong LSG bowling attack.

Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a flying start, but when Samson departed, Urvil Patel entered, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Urvil Patel showed no mercy towards the LSG bowlers, as CSK’s number 3, punished them with utmost ease. He tore down Avesh Khan, followed by Digvesh Rathi, as Urvil smashed a 13-ball fifty, and it turned out to be the joint-fastest fifty slammed in IPL history.

Urvil Patel smashes fastest fifty by a CSK player

This was also the fastest fifty smashed by a CSK batter in the IPL. The previous record-holder was Suresh Raina, who had registered a 16-ball half-century vs PBKS in the 2014 edition.

Urvil Patel blasts 5 sixes in a row to punish LSG

Right from ball one, the CSK batter was in the mood to take down the LSG bowlers. He was particularly severe on Avesh Khan, and Digvesh Rathi, as he hammered 5 sixes in a row to take the game away from the visitors.

On the 4th, 5th, and 6th balls of the fifth over, Urvil tore apart Avesh with three back-to-back sixes, and if that was not enough, he blasted Digvesh Rathi for two in a row, but the CSK star narrowly missed out on a historic milestone of smashing six sixes in a row.
