The highest Indian wicket-taker in the 1st ODI against New Zealand, Arshdeep Singh, at Eden Park revealed the reason behind his cheeky celebration after dismissing Kyle Jamieson.

The bowler, who missed his fifer but bagged 2 wickets inside the powerplay, dismissing crucial batters Will Young and Henry Nicholls, was pumped up when he got hold of Jamieson with an outside edge caught by an athletic Virat Kohli at extra cover.

Revealing the reason behind the cheeky gesture after the dismissal and the hilarious dance, Arshdeep dedicated the moves to his girlfriend.

Arshdeep Singh spills the beans on cheeky dance celebration

Arshdeep Singh got a clean hold of Kyle Jamieson in the 32nd over of the match. Marking the 8th fall of the Kiwi batting lineup, Singh delivered a hard length ball angling in and as Jamieson tried to drive it with an open bat face, the ball sliced away straight to Virat Kohli stationed at extra cover.

The soft dismissal immediately launched a celebration for Arshdeep, who hilariously pulled off a cheeky hand gesture while dancing to celebrate his third wicket of the day. Revealing the reason behind the move, Arshdeep told in the IND vs NZ 1st ODI's mid-match presentation that the celebration is dedicated to his girlfriend.

“That's for my girlfriend. We do these dance steps when we're out walking or something like that. Whenever the mood is a little low, we cheer each other up with that celebration. So this was for her,” Singh told reporters.

Arshdeep breaks records with remarkable spell in IND vs NZ 1st ODI

Arshdeep recorded one of the best bowling figures ever presented by any Indian bowler in New Zealand in the fifty-over format. He bagged 4 wickets for 70 runs in the match.

Best Bowling Figures for Indian Pacers in New Zealand in ODIs:

  • 4/23 - Javagal Srinath, Auckland, 2003

He now joins a list that has names like Javagal Srinath and Mohammed Shami, with the latter recording the best figures of 4/55 back in 2014.

Interestingly enough, Arshdeep’s spell was also one of the most expensive 4-fer ever recorded for India in ODIs.

Most Expensive 4-Wicket Haul for India in ODIs:
