In a significant development, the Melbourne Renegades confirmed the signing of experienced Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for the BBL 2026-27 season. Mustafizur joins the Renegades as a like-for-like replacement for Jason Behrendorff.
Mustafizur Rahman is a seasoned veteran from Bangladesh. Known for his ability to hit the deck hard and outfox the batters with cutters and slow balls, Mustafizur brings international as well as franchise league experience to the table.
Mustafizur Rahman bags maiden BBL contract for Melbourne Renegades
Notably, this is the first time Mustafizur Rahman has secured a contract in the Big Bash League. The left-arm pacer became the third Bangladesh player, after Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain, to secure a deal in the Australian T20 league.
It's worth mentioning that veteran Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff will miss the BBL 2026-27 after undergoing shoulder surgery. Mustafizur, being a left-arm pacer, enters the Renegades' setup as his like-for-like replacement.
However, the Bangladesh pacer will miss the blockbuster season opener between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers as he'll be playing for the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 at that time.
"I am looking forward to playing in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades. It will be special to play at the MCG as my home ground and I'm excited to join my teammates and bring my experience to the squad," Mustafizur Rahman said.
Mustafizur Rahman's record in T20 cricket

Overall, he has featured in 331 T20s, accounting for 423 wickets at an average of 21.09 and a strike rate of 16.9.
Mustafizur has played for five different teams in the IPL. Apart from that, he has represented five teams in the BPL while also plying his trade in the PSL, ILT20, LPL and Vitality Blast. He had a decent run for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2026, finishing the tournament with six wickets in five outings at an economy of 7.18.
