In a significant turn of events, Cricket West Indies (CWI) have confirmed Shane Deitz's departure as the head coach of the West Indies women's team. He leaves the role after three years in charge.
Deitz's contract ended on October 31, 2026, and both parties mutually agreed to part ways. Former West Indies men's head coach Andre Coley has been named his interim replacement.
Shane Deitz Steps Down After Three Years As West Indies Women's Head Coach
Shane Deitz took charge of the West Indies women's team three years ago and guided them to two consecutive ICC Women's T20 World Cup semi-finals in 2024 and 2026. His contract with Cricket West Indies ended on October 31.
During his time in charge, Deitz helped the team reach the last four of consecutive T20 World Cups. Reaching the semi-finals in both tournaments became an important achievement for the team under his guidance.
“Shane took this team to two World Cup semi-finals in a row, and that is now the standard this group holds itself to. We thank him for it. He told us of his plans, and we agreed together that a clean handover now was best for the team,” CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe said in a statement released by Cricket West Indies.
Bascombe thanked Shane Deitz for his contribution and said the team would continue to follow the standards set during his tenure. Deitz also described his three years with the team as successful and wished them well.
Andre Coley Named Interim West Indies Women's Head Coach
Following Deitz's departure, former West Indies men's Test head coach Andre Coley will take charge of the women's team on an interim basis. He will lead the side during its upcoming series against Pakistan.
Coley will work alongside the existing support staff and bring his experience from across the West Indies cricket system. He has also contributed to the High-Performance Programme, including the Men's A-Team engagement last year.
CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe welcomed Coley's appointment and praised his experience. Cricket West Indies also confirmed that further updates on the leadership of the women's team will be provided in due course.
