Pakistan’s batting prodigy Sameer Minhas has announced his arrival on the big stage in style, becoming the second-youngest player in PSL history to score a half-century. The 19-year-old achieved the milestone in just his second game for Islamabad United in the ongoing PSL 2026.

Widely regarded as Pakistan's future batting star, Sameer Minhas has already built a strong reputation in Pakistan’s cricketing circles. His stunning century against India in the U19 Asia Cup final last year turned heads, establishing him as one of the brightest young talents.

Now translating that promise into performances at the franchise level, Minhas is steadily edging closer to the national senior side. Delivering impactful innings at just 19 years of age in a high-pressure league signals a player ready for bigger challenges ahead.

Sameer Minhas beats Haider Ali to become second youngest to hit PSL half-century

Sameer Minhas has etched his name into the record books by becoming the second youngest player in PSL history to score a half-century. At 19 years and 121 days, he surpassed Haider Ali, marking a significant milestone early in his career.

The record for the youngest still belongs to Qasim Akram, who scored an unbeaten 51 at 19 years and 75 days for Karachi Kings against Islamabad United in Lahore back in 2022, setting a high benchmark for young batters.

Sameer Minhas now sits just behind Akram, with his half-century against Quetta Gladiators in Lahore during PSL 2026, while Haider Ali, who scored 69 at 19 years and 160 days against Lahore Qalandars in 2020, drops to third in this elite young achievers list.

Sameer Minhas powers Islamabad United to first win of PSL 2026 with match-winning 82*

Chasing 184, Islamabad United finally opened their account in PSL 2026 after a loss and a washout earlier. Restricting Quetta Gladiators to 183 on a good Lahore surface, the stage was set for a strong reply.

Sameer Minhas started the chase on a high for Islamabad United, launching a fearless assault in the powerplay. Despite Devon Conway falling early, the 19-year-old dominated the proceedings, racing to 33 off 16 and taking Islamabad to 58 for 1 at the end of six overs.

After Andries Gous departed cheaply, Shadab Khan joined Minhas in the middle. The duo steadied things briefly before shifting gears, stitching a crucial partnership. Both batters brought up fluent half-centuries, keeping the chase firmly under control.

Sameer Minhas led from the front, completing his fifty in 32 balls and finishing unbeaten on 82 off 48, including eight fours and three sixes. He sealed the chase for Islamabad United with a six, guiding the side home with 10 balls to spare.

Sameer Minhas’ record-breaking rise signals arrival of Pakistan’s next big star

Sameer Minhas’ feat of becoming the second youngest to score a PSL half-century is more than just a statistic. It underlines his temperament, fearless approach, and ability to deliver under pressure, marking him as a serious contender for higher honours.

At just 19, Minhas has already shown glimpses of a complete modern batter, blending aggression with composure. If this upward trajectory continues, his transition to the national side looks inevitable, with Pakistan potentially revealing a long-term match-winner in him.
