Shreyas Iyer sustained a painful wrist injury during Punjab Kings’ IPL 2026 match against Gujarat Titans, which took place in Mullanpur.

Even though Punjab Kings captain told the broadcaster that he did not want to jinx anything regarding the setback, plenty of interest has been shown from everywhere about whether he will be fit to play in their upcoming fixture against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

And to shut the noise around the rumours, Punjab Kings coach stepped up ahead of the PBKS vs CSK IPL 2026 match.

Brad Haddin Opens Up On Shreyas Iyer IPL Availability

Ahead of the CSK match, Punjab Kings assistant coach Brad Haddin broke the silence on Shreyas Iyer injury. Ricky Ponting’s right-hand man on Thursday confirmed there was no fracture on Iyer’s wrist, although there was some swelling.

Nevertheless, Shreyas, in all likelihood, will play the Punjab versus Chennai game, scheduled to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday (April 3).

How Iyer Was Injured During IPL 2026?

During the PBKS vs GT IPL 2026 match, Cooper Connolly, the new hero of Punjab, hit a ferocious drive to Iyer, who was at the non-striker’s end.

It happened when Rashid Khan came to bowl during the 12th over of Punjab Kings innings.

Even though Iyer kept on playing after the hit he got, the 31-year-old could not last long, falling for a paltry 11-ball 18.

Shreyas Iyer Injury Timeline

Even before the latest setback, Shreyas had suffered a prolonged injury break. It happened during October last year when India toured Australia for the white-ball series.

There, during the ODIs, Shreyas Iyer had suffered a Laceration of the spleen — a form of internal organ injury which was frequently linked to abdominal trauma.

Even though Iyer returned to action late February during the DY Patil T20 Cup, the IPL 2026 was supposed to be his actual comeback in front of larger audiences.

Unfortunately, he had the worst possible scenario to kick off the proceedings, though he will be ready to face the MS Dhoni-less Chennai in their own backyard.

How Did Shreyas Perform In IPL 2025?

Shreyas had his best IPL season last year, having made 604 runs at an incredible strike rate of 175.07. He averaged 50.33, with the highest score of an unbeaten 97.

Overall, Shreyas Iyer has tallied 3749 runs in the IPL, the tournament in which he made his debut back in 2015.

His previous best season with the bat came in IPL 2022, when he made 519 runs, although at a strike rate of 123.27 and an average of 34.60. Over the years, he has notched up 27 half-centuries laced with 314 fours and 154 sixes, coupled with 57 catches.
