Amelia Kerr powered New Zealand Women to a dominant 200-run victory against Zimbabwe Women in the third ODI held at Dunedin. Kerr stole the show with her all-round performance and sealed an elite record for herself.

Batting first, captain Kerr opened the inning with Emma McLeod. Both gave the Kiwis a stable start. The skipper led from the front, scoring 80 off 106 balls with 10 fours.

After the dismissal of Amelia Kerr, Maddy Green scored 94 off 73 balls to power New Zealand to a dominant total of 303 runs.

While the total was safe, Amelia Kerr ensured Zimbabwe had no chance of a comeback. With the ball, she was equally lethal and grabbed a five-wicket-haul.

Not only that, on the 24th, Kerr dismissed Adel Zimunu, Audrey Mazvishaya and Tendai Makusha to grab a historic hat-trick.

With that, Amelia Kerr became the third New Zealand woman to take an ODI hat-trick and also the 14th bowler in women’s ODI history to achieve the feat.

The last New Zealand women’s player to take an ODI hat-trick was Emily Drumm against Australia Women in 1996.

In the current decade, only a few players like Charlie Dean (2024), Chloe Tryon (2025) and now Amelia Kerr (2026) have achieved this milestone.

Amelia Kerr dominated the ODI series

Apart from the third ODI, Amelia Kerr’s dominance was seen throughout this ODI series against Zimbabwe. She scored a total of 140 runs and picked 16 wickets in three games to power New Zealand to a series sweep win.

Before the fifer, Amelia Kerr also picked up a seven-wicket haul earlier in the series. This performance also matters a lot because the ODI series was played under the ICC Women's Championship, which determines qualification for future global tournaments.

This was also notable because Zimbabwe women participated in the championship for the first time, making the competition an 11-team event.

A new chapter begins for Amelia Kerr

This historic feat comes at a crucial time for Amelia Kerr. She recently replaced Sophie Devine as New Zealand Women’s captain across all formats.

At 25 years old, Kerr is already one of the most experienced players in the team. She has played 172 international games, scoring 3,757 runs and picking 201 wickets.

As for Devine, she stepped down from her role after the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 cycle. She had been the Kiwis’ captain since 2020, taking over from Amy Satterthwaite in limited-overs formats.

Under her leadership, New Zealand won the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 and maintained strong performances in global competitions.

But after the World Cup cycle ended, Devine chose to step aside to allow new leadership.
