All-rounder Rinku Singh posted an emotional and tearful message for his late father after India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 title on March 8. Rinku expressed how he felt the void of his dad after fulfilling his dreams.
India beat New Zealand by 96 runs in a one-sided final to defend the T20 World Cup title successfully. Captain Suryakumar Yadav and co. had a dominant tournament, and the men in blue finally managed to win a title at home.
Rinku, however, dealt with a personal loss during the World Cup, yet showed immense grit to back the squad.
Rinku Singh remembers his late father
A couple of weeks ago, Rinku Singh lost his father, Khanchand Singh, to cancer. He left the team and attended the last rites in his hometown.
However, despite dealing with a serious personal loss, Rinku showed an unreal commitment to rejoin the squad for the remainder of the T20 World Cup.
As India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 trophy, Rinku Singh remembered his late father. In his emotional social media post, the all-rounder expressed sorrow but was proud to finally achieve his dad’s dream.
He added that he misses his father and that in every step of life, his void will be felt deeply by him.
"Aapse baat kiye bina itne din kabhi nahi nikale. Mujhe nahi pata aage ki zindagi aapke bina kaise chalegi… par mujhe har kadam par aapki zaroorat padegi. Aapne sikhaya tha ki farz sabse aage hai.. toh field par bas aapka sapna poora karne ki koshish kar raha tha. Ab aapka sapna pura ho gaya hai…. toh bas yahi lagta hai ki kash aap mere paas hote," Rinku wrote in caption.
Rinku Singh’s dad always stood like a pillar of support for him. Despite coming from a humble background where he struggled to make ends meet, Khanchand never stopped Rinku from chasing his dreams.
However, in a cruel twist of fate, Khanchand Singh couldn’t witness his son winning an ICC title for his country.

What happened to Khanchand Singh?
Khanchand Singh had been battling liver cancer. However, in late February, his condition worsened, and he had to be admitted to Noida. After treatments failed, he was put on a ventilator, and Rinku Singh rushed back home.
Though he rejoined the team after checking up on his father, Khanchand passed away a day later. Rinku again went back home and attended the last rites of his dad.
While Team India provided him with all the support, Rinku took a bold decision to rejoin the team and not quit the World Cup halfway.
Cricket fraternity backed Rinku Singh
In these difficult times, Rinku Singh found support from not only his team but also the entire cricket fraternity.
Among those who expressed their condolences was former India captain Virat Kohli, who shared a heartfelt message for the young batter on social media.
Kohli extended his prayers and strength to Rinku and his family during the difficult time. Virat Kohli also suffered a similar loss when he was just 18 years old.
He, too, chose to play a Ranji Trophy game for Delhi just hours after attending the funeral of his father back in 2008.
