India’s T20 World Cup 2026 win has been nothing short of dominance in open. The Men in Blue raged past all the obstacles with sheer force to achieve what one may call a clean sweep in cricketing terms, and at the helm of it reigned coach Gautam Gambhir.

The ex-India player orchestrated from the Playing XI to batting order and forged the mentality of champions to build what the team currently is.

Gautam Gambhir himself is aware of the intensity of the cricket team which have now won three ICC titles in a row, namely the 2024 T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy in 2025 and the recent silverware bagging.

Gautam Gambhir To Master 2027 After World Cup Win

Whatever naysayers might say, Gambhir is now primarily prioritising the 2027 ODI World Cup. Featuring Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, among others, the squad will be led by Shubman Gill, who was dropped for this T20 mega event.

Although critics, analysts, and experts remain divided over Gambhir's approach to gameplay, from a neutral standpoint, his tactics have largely been aggression-driven, whether with the bat or the ball.

Under Gambhir, India have also won the 2025 Asia Cup, clinching a thrilling victory against Pakistan in the final.

However, the Test cricket era has been quite challenging for the 44-year-old coach. He has recorded 10 losses, 7 wins, and 2 draws from 19 matches, including the end of a 12-year home unbeaten streak.

Despite these setbacks, Gambhir spoke about the mentality and culture he has fostered within the team and revealed how he has managed the so-called star culture while building a strong unit.

Gambhir On Star Culture And A Super Team India

Speaking to ANI, Gautam Gambhir addressed the recurring question of whether a team full of superstars could affect the balance of the Men in Blue. Gambhir explained how he brushed aside such concerns.

“The difference between the media and me is that they like creating superstars. My job is to create a super team. That's the difference. It's a simple difference, and that difference will always remain. The media wants to create superstars, but my job as a head coach is to create a super team," Gambhir said.

TRP Not A Metric

According to Gautam Gambhir, he looks at players purely as cricketers and not by their social media following or the TRP value they bring to broadcasters. He also added that even after his tenure as head coach ends in 2027, he hopes to leave behind a superstar team rather than just superstar cricketers.

"That’s the only way I look at my profession, because my job is to be absolutely fair and treat everyone exactly equally. Those 15 people in the dressing room are absolutely equal to me. I don’t look at the number of runs they have scored. I don’t look at the amount of social media following they have. I don’t look at the TRP they bring to people or broadcasters.

I only look at what they bring to the team and what they bring to the country. That is why I feel my job is to create a super team. Hopefully, by the time I finish my tenure, I will be able to build a super team,” Gautam Gambhir concluded.

India To Get Back In Action in June

For now, the Men in Blue will be on a break as IPL 2026 begins in late March. The boys will return to international action on June 6, when they face Afghanistan in a one-off Test, followed by a three-match ODI series.
