On Sunday, August 16, the 6th edition of the Hundred concluded with Manchester Super Giants lifting the prestigious title. The Jos Buttler-led side beat Trent Rockets in the final at Lord’s to win the first title under the new owners.
Previously, Manchester reached the final twice in 2022 and 2023 but failed to cross the finishing line. This time around, four of the six teams were backed by IPL franchises.
The recently concluded Hundred was a great opportunity for IPL-bound players to perform well and secure a retention. However, on the other hand, several players had a poor season, resulting in them ruining their retention chances for IPL 2027.
Hence, this article will shed light on players who had a poor Hundred 2026 season and have ruined their chances for IPL 2027 retention.

South Africa’s rising star Lhuan Dre-Pretorius represented London Spirit in The Hundred 2026 and had a season to forget. The 20-year-old only amassed 190 runs in 8 innings, averaging 23.75. He batted with an impressive strike rate of 163.79 but failed to provide runs for his team.
As a result, London Spirit crashed out of The Hundred early and finished 7th on the table with 12 points in 8 matches. Pretorius’ IPL future is under a scanner because the left-handed batter has not done anything significant to impress Rajasthan Royals.
The 20-year-old played two matches in IPL 2026, where he scored just 7 runs, and now it seems he has missed the opportunity to secure a retention.
2. Nicholas Pooran (Lucknow Super Giants)

Nicholas Pooran is another star player who fears a release ahead of IPL 2027. The southpaw, who draws a 21 crore salary every season, has failed to justify his price. In IPL 2026, Pooran scored just 234 runs in 14 innings, averaging 18.
Before the Hundred, there were already a lot of questions regarding Pooran’s place in LSG because of his form and his salary slab. However, the Caribbean star failed to impress in England’s premier T20 event and amassed just 208 runs in 8 innings, playing for MI London.
An average of 29.71 is not bad in T20s, but from Pooran’s standards its very normal, and there is nothing expectional about the performance that would provide the confidence to LSG to retain him for IPL 2027.
3. Sherfane Rutherford (Mumbai Indians)

Sherfane Rutherford is another West Indies star who is struggling to impress his IPL franchise. The southpaw had a poor IPL with Mumbai Indians, amassing 123 runs in 7 innings. He was eventually dropped from the playing XI.
The MI family entrusted him to their sister franchises and roped in Rutherford to play for MI London. However, Sherfane did not justify the trust shown in him and scored 91 runs in 6 innings, averaging 18.20. Hence, it seems unlikely that Mumbai Indians will retain Sherfane Rutherford for IPL 2027.
4. Trent Boult (Mumbai Indians)

Trent Boult has enjoyed some fabulous years with Mumbai Indians, but now the Kiwi star looks like a pale shadow of his past versions. Talking about IPL 2026, Trent Boult took just 2 wickets in 5 innings, with a strike-rate of 48.00.
In The Hundred 2026, Boult represented MI’s London franchise and took just 9 wickets in 8 matches. He had a strike-rate of 17, but as per his standards, he should have had a better season.
5. Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen is currently one of the best all-rounders in the market. The South African star player is one of the most talked-about players, but is struggling in franchise cricket. Jansen was bought for 7 crores by Punjab Kings and had an ineffective IPL 2026.
In the last season, Jansen scored 51 runs in 5 innings and picked up 9 wickets in 12 innings. Jansen was expected to back it up with a good Hundred season, but playing for Welsh Fire, he failed to produce anything significant.
Jansen scored just 13 runs and picked up 6 wickets in 8 innings. Not just The Hundred, but Jansen also had a poor MLC where he scored 37 runs in 4 innings, and picked up 6 wickets in 6 innings.
