The preparations for IPL 2027 are in full swing. The franchises are hunting for younger talents to strengthen their squad, while budding cricketers are also using local tournaments as a platform to grab eyeballs.

In recent events, former India U-19 World Cup winner Uday Saharan has risen to prominence with a stunning performance in the Punjab Inter-State One Day tournament.

The 21-year-old, who led India in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, had a brilliant tournament but struggled for opportunities. Recently, he took part in the Punjab Inter-State One Day tournament and took the competition by storm with his brilliance while opening the innings.

Uday Saharan Shines In Punjab Inter-State One Day Tournament

The 21-year-old recently played the Punjab Inter-State One Day Tournament, where he slammed 601 runs in 5 innings, averaging 150.25. His competition featured two double hundreds and a century.

The interesting thing is Saharan showed character in crucial stages and slammed a double hundred in the final to win the tournament for Bathinda. Overall, he played a 163-run knock against Fatehgarh in the semi-final and also a double hundred against Moga in the group-stages.

With the impressive performance, Saharan has become the talk of the town and the timing of the series is also perfect.

The scouts are on a hunt, and the 21-year-old would have certainly made into a few wish lists. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on teams that can buy Uday Saharan during the IPL 2027 auction.

Notably, Saharan was part of the IPL 2026 auction list, but failed to find any interest by the 10 teams.

During the Punjab Inter-State One Day tournament, the 21-year-old opened the innings for Bathinda, so he can be a great Indian opening option.

Recently, Uday Sahran was bought by Bathinda Royals for the inaugural season of Sher-E-Punjab T20 league. Hence, here are the three teams that can go after Uday Saharan.

Most teams are content with their opening pairs, but Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders are the three-teams on top of the list who are seeking openers for IPL 2027.

1. Delhi Capitals

In IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals had KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka as the two opening choices. Rahul was great, but Nissanka struggled for consistency.

The Sri Lankan star scored 278 runs in 10 innings. Further, Nissanka’s presence also meant the Capitals compromised with an overseas slot in the middle.

Besides Nissanka, Abishek Porel and Sahil Parakh opened the innings. Now, at present, Porel is behind bars, and there is uncertainty over his IPL 2027 participation. Hence, DC require an Indian option, and Saharan can be one.

2. Mumbai Indians

For Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma is turning 40 next year, and the five-time winners will be without a quality opening batter once the Hitman leaves or hangs up his boots.

Hence, the five-time winners need to plan right now, because their experiment with Danish Malewar failed.

The two quality opening options right now for Mumbai Indians besides Rohit Sharma are Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock. Hence, MI need to bring in an Indian opener, and Saharan is a great option.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders

For Kolkata Knight Riders, they have a lot of work to do before IPL 2027. The three-time winners are without a captain, and an opening slot is also vacant after Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement.

KKR have a history of entrusting young batters, as we have seen with Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and now Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Uday Saharan is also in an interesting phase in his career, and an opportunity with the Knight Riders will be great for him.
