Just months after playing a crucial role in India’s historic Women’s World Cup win, wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh finds herself in SIR trouble. As flagged by Trinamool Congress on March 1, the player’s name in the voter list has been marked in the “under adjudication” category by the election commission.
Currently, Ghosh is on a multi-format tour of Australia with the Indian Women’s team and was actively involved in their 3-0 T20I series win down under after 10 years.

Richa Ghosh’s name under SIR review
On Saturday, February 28, the Election Commission released a voter list ahead of the West Bengal election later in the summer. With the ECI conduction Special Intensive Revision of the voter lists to remove duplicate or ineligible entries and verify voter details, the player has found her name in the category “under adjudication”.
This means, Ghosh’s name is not yet cleared to vote in the upcoming election, which could be due to variety of reasons like discrepancy of age, address or documentation or duplication, etc. She could possibly mean she will be sent a notice and will need to submit the required documents to clear he name for voting.
There is also a chance that the India Women’s star is called up by the ECI to be physically present to resolve the issue. The party is power currently, i.e., TMC has called out the ECI and the central government for reaching new lows of absurdity to treat a World Cup hero in this way through their tweet.
Richa Ghosh’s World Cup blitz and subsequent plaudits
It is worthy to note that Richa Ghosh scored 235 runs in 8 innings of the competition at home, while striking at 133.52, which was the highest strike rate in the tournament. She played several match-winning knocks down the order, including 34(24) in the final, resulting in a 52-run win.
Before being flagged by the ECI, the 22-year-old was also given an honorary rank in the West Bengal Police as Deputy Superintendent of Police and took charge as Assistant Commissioner of Police in Siliguri Commissionerate.
Additionally, a new cricket stadium in her hometown, Siliguri is set to be named after her, as announced by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after India lifted the trophy.
Indian Cricketers in SIR trouble
Richa Ghosh is not the first Bengal cricketer who is being reviewed by the Election Commission in the ongoing SIR process. Previously, the men’s team fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, who has represented India in 64 Tests, 108 ODIs and 25 T20Is was also called up for SIR hearing in Kolkata in January.
Shami graciously appeared in front of the committee and revealed he found no issues in the process and would happily co-operate with the officials if he had to appear again.
“There was no problem... The SIR is not something that will harm you... Those who do not have an SIR form should also come,” he said.
With one Test to be played in Australia after the end of white-ball series, it remains to be seen whether Richa Ghosh is called up for any such hearings or the matter would be resolved without her physical presence.
