Rinku Singh sidelined for India vs West Indies game [Source: AFP]
India will take on the West Indies in the do-or-die T20 World Cup Super 8 match at the iconic Eden Gardens. The hosts were the firm favourites to reach the semifinals from their group, but an embarrassing defeat against the Proteas dented their chances as the team finds itself in a must-win clash against a strong West Indian team.
The Men in Blue defeated Zimbabwe in their last match to stay alive in the tournament, but even in the victory, the Indian side lacked the cutting-edge, and the Suryakumar Yadav-led side cannot allow another slip-up against a fearsome West Indian side.
India’s bowling has been questionable throughout the World Cup, and on a batting surface at the Eden Gardens, the bowlers must come good to keep India’s semifinale chances alive. With the India vs West Indies match set to take place at 7 PM IST, here is what transpired at the toss between the two nations.
IND Vs WI T20 World Cup Toss Update
India won the coin flip and captain Suryakumar Yadav had no hesitation in electing to field first as chasing becomes easier as the game progresses, and there would be some dew as well. Interestingly, India have gone in with an unchanged XI, and that means, no Rinku Singh who had joined the team after his father's unfortunate demise.
India, however, hold the advantage as chasing could be slightly easier at this wicket.
West Indies, on the other hand, also wanted to bowl first, but now they have to put runs on the board. The team has made just one change, Brandon King is out, and Akeal Hosein returns.

What the captains had to say during toss
Suryakumar Yadav: "We’re going to bowl first tonight. (On conditions at Eden Gardens) It looks good — that’s a fact, it looks good. This has generally been a chasing ground. The wicket tends to become even better as the game goes on. And with a little bit of dew expected later, I think chasing would be the better option.
(Virtual quarter-final against WI) Absolutely. It’s already very lively. The crowd is in, and hopefully we can give them a good show tonight. Of course, there’s tension — because if there’s no pressure, there’s no fun. But the mood in the camp is good. I think we ticked a lot of boxes in the last game and took our opportunities. Coming into this match, I think it will be a good one.
Shai Hope: "We would have done the same thing. Yes, that is the key for us. You have to make sure that you are playing consistent cricket all the way through. In big tournaments like World Cups, you need to ensure that you play your best cricket when it matters the most. Tonight, no better time to do so."
