There was a reason why the Lucknow Super Giants were interested in acquiring the services of Australian batter, Josh Inglis, for the IPL 2026. He was only available for just four IPL matches, but LSG took a chance, and they bought him for a whopping 8.60 crore in the mini auction.

The decision raised eyebrows as Inglis was only available for four games, but the franchise spent a huge sum of money on him. However, the Australian keeper silenced his critics in style in the CSK Vs LSG IPL 2026 match on Sunday.

Playing as an opener alongside Mitch Marsh, Inglis made his Australian teammate an afterthought as he punished the CSK bowlers with his brute-batting.

The Australian batter was at his imperious best as the CSK bowlers had no answer to his brute onslaught. No CSK bowler was spared as Inglis hammered 6 huge sixes and slammed his fifty inside 17 deliveries.

In the process, he entered the history books and became the LSG player with the third fastest IPL fifty (17 balls). The record for the fastest half-century is currently being held by Nicholas Pooran, who had smacked his fifty inside 15 balls. Not even Rishabh Pant, the hard-hitting batter has scored a fifty that quick, as Inglis enters the history books.

Josh Inglis misses out on a historic IPL century feat

The record for the fastest IPL century belongs to RCB legend, Chris Gayle, who smacked a 30-ball ton against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 season. That record stood tall for the last 13 years, but at one stage, Inglis had a great chance to beat that.

Inglis was going hammer and tong, and at one stage, he was batting at 76 off 24 balls, and the way he was going, smashing four sixes in the next five balls looked very much possible.

However, the batter played a couple of dot balls, and he missed a golden chance to join/eclipse Gayle in this historic IPL feat.

The LSG batter was eventually dismissed for a well-compiled 85 off 33, with a strike rate of 257.
