Gurnoor Brar seems to have justified his maiden Test call up for the Indian cricket team. Helming India’s pace attack alongside senior men Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, the Punjab speedster picked up two huge wickets on a topsy-turvy Day 3 against Sri Lanka Cricket XI.
Toiling away at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo on Sunday, August 9; Brar also dismissed Sri Lanka Cricket XI captain Sonal Dinusha with a vicious bounce on the final day of the match.
Gurnoor Brar traps Sonal Dinusha with a vicious short ball
Gurnoor Brar sent down a vicious short delivery to Sri Lanka Cricket XI captain Sonal Dinusha in the 38th over of the hosts’ second innings. Already emboldened with a huge wicket of number four batter Pavan Rathnayake for just 16, Brar removed skipper Dinusha from the crease after the latter had made nine off 14 deliveries.

On a surface where there has not been as much pace off the pitch for short balls, Gurnoor generated intense pace as Sonal went for an attempted upper cut, only to edge the speedster’s rising delivery towards India wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.
Having scored a swift half-century for SLC XI in the first innings, captain Sonal Dinusha made his way back to the sheds in the second innings for just nine from 14 balls.
As Dinusha was walking off the crease, Gurnoor Brar also yelled out a huge roar to give a fiery send-off to the outbound Sri Lanka Cricket XI skipper.

Gurnoor Brar persists with aggression despite recent troubles
Despite the recent controversy surrounding his on-field conduct, Gurnoor Brar continued to showcase his aggressive approach as he made his presence felt with both the ball and with his fiery send-off to Sonal Dinusha.
Just a few weeks ago, the Indian speedster landed in trouble in England as he fired a deadly throw towards hosts batter Ben Duckett. The cricketer was subsequently handed one demerit point by the ICC for violating Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct in the first ODI of the series against England.
In the very next match of the series, Brar gave English skipper Harry Brook an animated send-off after dismissing the latter at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
As of now, it remains to be seen if Brar can keep his aggressive instincts under control while continuing to impress with his performances on the field.
Brar justifies Test call-up with impressive warm-up show
Gurnoor Brar, who made his ODI debut for India just a couple of months ago during the home series against Afghanistan, has now received his maiden Test call-up. The speedster was selected in Team India squad by the BCCI for the upcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka.
Bowling on a rather batting-friendly surface against SLC XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground, the tearaway paceman picked up three wickets in 20 overs across both innings to leave a notable mark before the all-important series.
With Team India struggling with the injury of legendary paceman Jasprit Bumrah, young Brar might receive a place in the Indian playing XI next week on a trail of his recent performance and impressive first-class track record.
