Team India continues to get plagued with injuries in the lead up to their two-match Test tour of Sri Lanka. After legendary fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of India squad for the tour, talented young top-order batter Sai Sudharsan was also forced to leave the national side owing to his injury.
It now appears that BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru has now directly put the blame of increasing player injuries on Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises.
CoE blames IPL franchises for player injuries before Sri Lanka tour
As reported by an ANI sports correspondent, the BCCI CoE has blamed IPL franchises for an unprecedented increase in Indian players injuries.

With Team India losing Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan from the Sri Lanka tour, a CoE source recently stated that a majority of Indian players are forced to play entire IPL seasons through injuries owing to franchise and financial pressure.
The source further stated that once IPL seasons are over, the responsibility for the recovery of those injured players are then “dumped” onto the physios of the CoE. With too much international cricket going on, coupled with two-month long IPL seasons, there has been an upsurge in injured Indian players turning to the CoE for rehabilitation, as stated by the source.
Team India marred with injuries
Compatible to CoE’s reported claims, several first-choice Indian players are currently struggling with injuries, sustained either during the IPL 2026 season or during India’s subsequent international tours.
For instance, during the IPL 2026 season a couple of months ago, Mumbai Indians legends Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma were both forced to miss a bunch of matches, before rushing their way back to the field.
Even Virat Kohli was forced to miss India’s three-match home ODI series against Afghanistan after the legendary Indian batter suffered an injury during the IPL 2026 final.
Players like star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, tearaway paceman Harshit Rana, ace spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar are also struggling from injuries and were forced to compromise on their international commitments in Ireland and England.
Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan ruled out of India’s must-win tour of Sri Lanka
Apart from struggling with players availability in Ireland and England owing to injuries, the Indian team management also seems to be juggling through injury-induced unavailability of players for their must-win tour of Sri Lanka.
In context of the ongoing 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, the Indian cricket team needs to win its two-match Test series against hosts Sri Lanka by a 2-0 margin.
However, legendary fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was recently ruled out of the tour, prompting the selection committee to name uncapped Auqib Nabi as his replacement. India’s number three Sai Sudharsan has also been ruled out of the series as he is yet to recover from his injury.
Even Washington Sundar is struggling with his injury, and the cricketer might well become the third Indian player to get ruled out of the national squad despite getting selected in the 15-member group for the Sri Lanka tour.
