Madurai Panthers Create History With TNPL's Biggest Run Chase, Shatter Multiple Records

The Madurai Panthers and Kovai Kings cricket teams set up a high-scoring exhibition in match number seven of the TNPL 2026 season. 

Taking on each other at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul, the two teams aggregated nearly 500 runs together in 39.3 overs’ worth of action on Saturday, August 8.

The Madurai Panthers team ended up winning the match, thus maintaining their unbeaten record this season. Moreover, the Panthers also scripted a huge TNPL record, previously scaled by no other team in the history of the prestigious Tamil Nadu-based T20 league.

Madurai Panthers pull off biggest run chase in TNPL history

Chasing 240 runs for a win in match number seven of the TNPL 2026 season, NS Chaturved at number three blasted 121 runs off just 47 balls with 15 fours and seven huge sixes for the Madurai Panthers, thus maintaining a staggering strike rate of over 250. 

Opening batter Siddharth Mahadevan and captain B Anirudh Sita Ram also composed quick runs with the bat before the latter notched up the winning runs for his side alongside CSK paceman Gurjapneet Singh with three balls to spare.

Madurai Panthers’ batting blitzkrieg marked the highest successful run chase in the history of the TNPL, surpassing the 2022 effort set by Kovai Kings in Coimbatore. Here is a look at three of TNPL’s highest successful run chases in history.

Madurai Panthers vs Kovai Kings sets up huge records

The match number seven of the TNPL 2026 season between Madurai Panthers and Kovai Kings also set up a huge record of charting TNPL’s highest run aggregate in a single game. 

The two teams combined scored 479 runs in less than 40 overs to surpass the previous record set by 2023’s match between Nellai Royal Kings and Madurai Panthers.

In addition to the aforementioned records, the Madurai Panthers and Kovai Kings teams also notched up two of the highest team totals in the history of the TNPL.

While Kovai Kings went past Nellai Royal Kings’ 236-run total by mounting 239-4 in their 20 overs, the Madurai Panthers surpassed that effort just a couple of hours later in the evening. Here is a look at four of TNPL’s highest team totals.

Madurai Panthers remain unbeaten, climb to number two

The historic outcome also handed Madurai Panthers their second successive win this TNPL 2026 season. As of now, they are one of only two teams this season to have not lost a single game, and are only placed behind table-toppers Nellai Royal Kings on the eight-team points table.
