Gurnoor Brar breathed fire against England in India’s second ODI of the three-match series on Thursday, July 16. Defending 234 runs in a tight game, the tearaway paceman kept India in the hunt with the all-important wicket of England captain Harry Brook.

The speedster also gave a fiery send-off to an outbound Brook, thus risking himself of facing yet another ICC punishment. Earlier in the day, the cricketer was penalized by the ICC for his “violent behavior” in the series-opening first ODI against the same opponents earlier this week.

Gurnoor Brar gets rid of Harry Brook in tense game

Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar struck in his opening spell by getting rid of England captain Harry Brook in the 11th over of the innings at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Shortly after hitting a six, Brook attempted yet another scoop, this time against Brar only to nick one behind towards Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. His rash shot led to his dismissal after making just 16 off 16 balls as England’s top-order crashed to 53-3 early in the innings.

Interestingly, young Gurnoor celebrated the timely wicket with much fervour as he let out a huge roar and indirectly gave an animated “send-off” to an outbound English skipper.

Gurnoor Brar already punished by ICC this series

It is worth noting that mere hours prior to the launch of the England vs India second ODI match in Cardiff, Gurnoor Brar was punished by the ICC for exhibiting violent behaviour in the first ODI of the series earlier this week.

The incident occurred during the eighth over of the England innings in Birmingham on July 14, when the cricketer fielded the ball and threw it towards the batter in an “inappropriate and dangerous manner”.

He was later reprimanded and received one demerit point for his misconduct by the ICC. As per ICC’s official website, the Indian fast bowler was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and or dangerous manner during an international match.”

India vs England goes down the wire

Team India batted first in the second ODI of the series and charted 233 in 44 overs. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer punched out regal half-centuries, while legendary fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah scored some crucial runs at the death against England’s Saqib Mahmood.

Defending 234, Indian fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar got the early wickets to jolt England at 53-3. Shivam Dube and Axar Patel also struck with the ball, but a run chase masterclass from Joe Root kept England in the game, with the former captain sharing some crucial partnerships with Jos Buttler, Will Jacks and Gus Atkinson.
