In a significant development, Rohit Sharma's parents, Gurunath Sharma and Purnima Sharma, have arrived in London ahead of the third and final ODI between India and England at Lord's on July 19, with the match expected to be the veteran opener's final appearance in ODIs.
Sources close to CREX in Mumbai informed that, Rohit Sharma had made arrangements for his parents to be present at Lord's after being informed about the selectors' plans regarding his ODI future.
Rohit Sharma's Parents To Witness His Retirement At Lord's
CREX exclusive sources informed that Rohit Sharma's parents have already reached London and will be present at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground to watch the final ODI of the IND vs ENG series.
Sources in Mumbai keeping track of developments told CREX that Rohit Sharma had been told during the India vs England ODIs, that the Indian selectors are not looking at him from 2027 World Cup stand point and this could be his last international series.
It had already been reported that the India vs Afghanistan ODIs was going to be his last series but a half century in the ODIs, made the selectors push the call further.
However, it has now been confirmed that Rohit Sharma is retiring and we can confirm that his parents have reached London to witness the Mumbai Cha Raja for one last time in Indian colours on Sunday.
BCCI Looks Beyond Rohit Sharma Ahead Of 2027 ODI World Cup
It is understood that the Indian selection committee, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir, conveyed their long-term plans to Rohit last week.
Meanwhile, the selectors are believed to be focusing on younger options, with players like Yashasvi Jaiswal expected to play a bigger role in India's ODI setup going forward.
Notably, Rohit Sharma has endured a difficult run with the bat during the ongoing England tour. The veteran opener managed 11 runs in the 1st ODI before following it up with 26 off 47 balls in the second match at Cardiff.
Unlike his usual aggressive self, Rohit struggled to find fluency at the crease and looked out of rhythm against England's disciplined bowling attack.
Rohit Sharma's ODI Career At A Glance
Notably, Rohit Sharma has already bid farewell to two formats of the game. He retired from T20Is after captaining India to 2024 T20 World Cup title at Kensington Oval, on June 29.
Later, in May 2025, the veteran opener also announced his retirement from Tests through an Instagram post.
If the third ODI against England at Lord's indeed turns out to be his final appearance in the 50-over format, Rohit will bring the curtains down on one of the finest ODI careers in history.
Across 286 ODIs, he has amassed 11731 runs at an impressive average of 48.67, including 32 centuries and 58 half-centuries.
It is worth mentioning that he also holds the record for the highest individual score in ODI history (264). Meanwhile, Rohit's impact as captain has been equally significant. Notably, he guided India to 2023 ODI World Cup final.
He followed that up by leading the Men in Blue to the 2024 T20 World Cup title, cementing his legacy as one of India's most successful white-ball captains.
