Tamim Iqbal has been officially elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The former Bangladesh captain also previously led the national board, albeit on an interim basis after the removal of previous president Aminul Islam Bulbul.
Iqbal will now hold the position on a full-time basis, after winning the BCB elections that were held on Sunday, June 7 in Mirpur.
Tamim Iqbal wins with sweeping majority in BCB elections
Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal becomes the new president of the BCB. The former cricketer will now serve the national board for the next four years as he won a one-sided election organized by the BCB at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.
In the same election, Fahim Sinha was elected as the new vice president of the BCB.

Tamim Iqbal’s appointment was confirmed through a voting process conducted among the newly elected board directors after the completion of the BCB election process. He has now become the 18th president to hold the prestigious position in the history of the national cricket board.
The 37-year-old also became the fifth BCB boss in less than two years, ever since ex-president Najmul Hasan Papon reportedly left the country after the toppling of the Awami government in mid-2024.
Apart from Iqbal, several members of the ad hoc committee like Fahim Sinha, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Md Rafiqul Islam Babu were also elected.
When Tamim served BCB as ad hoc committee’s president
Just a couple of months ago, Tamim Iqbal was named as the interim BCB president after Aminul Islam Bulbul was booted out of the board. Several reports indicated that Aminul was axed owing to Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 fallout with the ICC and the BCCI.
He was also part of a controversial board election last year which came under scrutiny by an investigation committee of the National Sports Council (NSC).
An ad hoc committee took over the BCB, naming Iqbal as interim president until fresh elections takes place within the board. With the appointment, he also became the youngest ever to take the BCB president chair, doing so at the age of just 37.
The ad hoc committee also featured several other members like Minhajul Abedin, Athar Ali Khan Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha.
What’s next for Tamim Iqbal
The 37-year-old, a former Bangladesh captain and a veteran of nearly 400 internationals, will now oversee the BCB at a crucial juncture.
Not long ago, the Jay Shah-led ICC sent a two-member delegation to Bangladesh to engage with a range of stakeholders to review developments linked to the BCB. One can assume that the delegation visited the country to check if there are any irregularities within the board.
Bangladesh, fresh from its T20 World Cup controversy, is now scheduled to host the 2027 Asia Cup next year.
As Bangladesh cricket enters a new chapter under Iqbal’s leadership, all eyes will be on how the former skipper navigates the board through administrative challenges while steering the national team towards greater on-field success.
