England crushed New Zealand in the first Test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The outcome also marked England’s only fourth win this World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle in 11 attempts.

Following the low-scoring cracker between England and New Zealand at the iconic Lord’s, here is a look at the updated points table of the 2025-27 WTC.

Updated WTC Table after England’s win over New Zealand

England remain at seventh

Despite registering a comprehensive win over New Zealand in their series-opener, England failed to make any advances on the WTC 2025-27 points table. Ben Stokes and co. continue to be ranked number seventh on the nine-team standings, finding themselves only above a struggling Pakistani side and a winless West Indies unit.

The Englishmen, however, managed to enhance their PCT from 31.67 to 37.88 to get closer to sixth placed India. A 3-0 sweep over New Zealand in the ongoing series might help England to climb higher up on the points table as the championship cycle heads into its second half.

New Zealand drops below South Africa and Sri Lanka

The New Zealand cricket team, on the other hand, lost its number two spot to slip to number four on the WTC 2025-27 points table. Both South Africa and Sri Lanka gained a rung each at New Zealand’s expense to climb to number two and number three spots respectively.

New Zealand’s PCT also dropped from a formidable 77.78 to 58.33 following their 115-run drubbing to England in London.

WTC Final Qualification Chances For Rest Of The Teams

Fittingly, the WTC 2025-27 points table is currently helmed by the two finalists of the previous championship final from last year, Australia and South Africa. Defending champions South Africa, along with Sri Lanka, made a leap at the expense of New Zealand to get closer to table-toppers Australia.

New Zealand and Bangladesh are on par with 28 points each with an equal PCT of 58.33. Teams like India, England and Pakistan are ranked sixth, seventh and eighth respectively in the standings. West Indies continue to dwell at the bottom as they remain the only winless team of this championship cycle.

Judging by the updated points table nearly halfway into the 2025-27 championship, 2023 winners Australia and defending champions South Africa once again look firm favorites to make it to the final next year.
