India posted a massive total of 402 all out after being asked to bat first in the 2nd ODI against Afghanistan on June 17. 

The innings was powered by a sensational knock from captain Shubman Gill, who scored 154 runs off 110 balls despite struggling with physical discomfort in the latter stages of his innings. 

Ishan Kishan also played a crucial role, ending his three-year wait for an ODI century with a brilliant 125 off 79 balls at a strike-rate of 158.23.

The duo stitched together a blistering 224-run partnership for the third wicket in just 141 balls, putting the Afghanistan bowlers under immense pressure. 

Gill, who batted at No. 3 to accommodate Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order, dominated the innings with aggressive strokeplay and excellent timing.

Why Is Shubman Gill Not Present On The Field For The IND vs AFG 2nd Innings?

However, as Afghanistan started the run chase in the second ODI. It was observed that Shubman Gill was not on the field due to severe cramps and exhaustion he faced while batting in challenging weather conditions at Lucknow.

The Indian Captain was visibly struggling and required treatment from the medical staff. Visuals showed the Shubman Gill was in considerable discomfort and was also seen with a towel wrapped around his neck in an attempt to cope with the intense heat.

With Gill resting and recovering, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has stepped in to lead India on the field. Iyer is an experienced captain and has shown remarkable captaincy skills in the IPL.

It is vital to note that Shreyas Iyer has been recently named as India’s T20I captain and will begin his tenure with the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. He has replaced Suryakumar Yadav as the captain for India in the shortest format of the game.

The ‘Men in Blue’ will begin their much-awaited T20I campaign with two matches against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28, and then the team will travel to England for a five-match T20I series from July 1 to 11.

Despite showing discomfort, Shubman Gill continued his excellent form and scored a brilliant century. He also completing 7,000 international runs across all formats.

Gill's century came off just 77 balls, making it one of the fastest ODI hundreds by an Indian captain.
