Ishan Kishan produced a brilliant century against Afghanistan in the ongoing second ODI at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, June 17. The left-handed batter not only ended his long wait for an ODI hundred but also achieved a major career milestone in ODIs.

Along with Ishan Kishan, India captain Shubman Gill also dominated the Afghanistan bowling attack. The star player made 154 runs off 110 balls at a strike-rate of 140.00.

India suffered an early setback when Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for just four runs in the India vs Afghanistan 2nd ODI. However, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan quickly took control of the innings and ensured Afghanistan could not build further pressure.

Gill, who was batting at No. 3 instead of opening, looked in complete control from the moment he arrived at the crease.

The Indian captain played elegant strokes all around the ground and rotated the strike efficiently as he made his maiden ODI century as India's captain.

At the other end, Ishan Kishan made 125 runs off 79 balls at a strike rate of 158.23. Together, Gill and Kishan stitched a magnificent 224-run partnership for the third wicket. 

Their stand now ranks among the biggest partnerships for India against Afghanistan in ODI cricket.

Ishan Kishan Breaks MS Dhoni’s Massive Record

Ishan Kishan's century in the IND vs AFG 2nd ODI became even more special as he completed 1,000 ODI runs during the innings. In doing so, he surpassed former India captain MS Dhoni.

The left-hander reached 1,000 ODI runs in just 26 innings, placing him fourth on India’s all-time list for the fewest innings required to achieve the landmark.

Taking a look at Kishan’s overall ODI stats, he has played 28 matches and made 967 runs at an average of 42.04 and strike rate of 103.42.

India Make Three Notable Changes In IND vs AFG 2nd ODI

Earlier in the IND vs AFG 2nd ODI, Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to bowl first. 

India made three changes, bringing in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav and debutant pacer Prince Yadav. Nitish Kumar Reddy missed the match because of a left quad injury.
