Mohammad Amir, a veteran of 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is for Pakistan, has now got a United Kingdom (UK) passport. Amir, aged 34, has now settled in England. He got the British citizenship earlier this year.
The upcoming edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) will be his first tournament in which Amir will participate in a competition as a UK citizen.
Mohammad Amir To Play Under Rashid Khan
Kandahar Warriors, captained by Rashid Khan, will be Amir’s team in the Afghanistan Premier League 2026/27. The Warriors signed him as the first pick. He was available to be picked in the Platinum Category, with the price set at USD 100,000 (94,75,000 INR approx).
Along with Amir, Tymal Mills, Joe Clarke, George Munsey, Kusal Perera, Ibrahim Masood and Dwaine Pretorius were the other overseas players in the Kandahar Warriors squad for APL 2026/27.
Earlier, Amir ruled out the possibility of playing in IPL 2027. There was reports that he might be available to play in the Indian Premier League, given that he now has UK citizenship.
In the past, Pakistan’s Azhar Mahmood played in the IPL in the same way. However, Amir himself confirmed that there is no chance.
No Problem For Amir Regarding Pakistan’s NOC For APL 2026/27
Earlier, reports suggested that Pakistan players might not get the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Afghanistan Premier League. Thus, despite many big names, including the likes of Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, and Naseem Shah, among others, no one got a chance to feature in APL 26/27.
The reason is the current geopolitical situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
However, Mohammad Amir doesn't need to worry about all that. He is no longer a Pakistani player, and the UK citizenship would help him to full-fledgedly participate in the competition.
Amir has been extremely consistent in T20s wherever he plays. At present, he has picked up 440 wickets in 371 innings, averaging 22.72 while maintaining an economy rate of 7.38.
